I have an '84 K10 with a stock 305. I just ordered an Edelbrock 600 CFM Electric Choke carburetor. I know that I ill need an adapter to mate it with the stock, 305 intake. Can someone give me direction on where I can find the right adapter? Much appreciated!
-
I think I saw it at AutoZone and O'Riley but you could also get it mail order from Jegs or Summit.
-
what made you go with a 600?
-
I have a Jeep CJ7 I rebuilt and put a 350 Chevy in it with an Edelbrock 600. Did I order too much carb for that 305?

I simply want the truck to run well and get better gas mileage. I have had a lot of good experience with an Eddy 600 on other motors. What would be the best carb anyone would recommend if it isn't the Eddy 600? Need to cancel the Eddy 600 before they ship if I should get another. Help!

I found this 500cfm from Summit I could order instead. Any suggestions? http://www.summitracing.com/parts/edl-9903/applications/
-
mo a 600 is good for a stock 350. idk about 305s. go to holley.com and carb selector
-
600cfm will be fine if it is vacuum secondary which the Edelbrock is.
-
The Edelbrock 1400 series carb (the old Carter AFB) is a mechanical secondary.
-
Here is the 600 cfm I ordered. It is the #1406 with electric choke. Would I get better gas mileage if I down-sized to the 500 cfm?

Thanks everybody. I am going to close this thread out and open a new one. I cancelled the order for the 600 cfm carburetor.
-
It isn't going to make a difference if both are vacuum operated secondaries unless one has smaller primaries than the other.

The Edelbrock carbs are mechanical secondaries, with an air valve that is opened by air flow in the secondaries.
-
i don't know if you've already re-ordered, but i'm seriously looking at the holley 4175 as a replacement for the quadrajet as opposed to getting a reman quadrajet. It's a direct bolt on and simplier.
-
the 4175 is 650 cfm unless its a modified 350 its too much. even for the 305 holley is saying to go with a 570cfm
-
You'll get better mileage with a Qjet than either a Holley or Edelbrock, and I think in the adjacent thread he says mileage is one goal.
But you get better mileage and performance from any of these carbs properly tuned than you will from any of them poorly tuned.
I would spend that money instead on the NGK A/F ratio meter ($250 from amazon) and use it to properly tune the carb he's got.
-
rich would that be the only type of meter you would recommend?
-
The NGK is the only one I've used. It's relatively cheap, and it has the really nice NGK five-lead, wide-range O2 detector.
Five leads plus chassis ground is three circuits: heater circuit, temp sensor circuit, and O2 detector circuit.
-
I called Edelbrock and they confirmed that with the 305 and a stock setup, the engine calls for a 500 cfm carb. I chose to order a rebuild kit and take a shot at going through the Quadrajet first. If that works it will produce the most gas mileage.
-
I think that's your best choice. Lots of people on here with knowledge of the Qjet internals, too, so shout if you got questions once you get into it.
-
If Mileage is you goal Quadrajet is your best bet. They will preform just as well as the others if properly setup also.
-
now we're thinking and its cheaper to rebuild a qjet then buy a new holley
-
And with the money you save you can buy the A/FR meter, and get it dialed in! I'm a big fan of A/FR meters. :-)

Okay, I really need some advice. I ordered the Rochester book by Doug Roe and it doesn't have step by step instructions on rebuilding the carb. I bought the recommended rebuild kit and a new float. The truck finally quit running today and isn't getting any fuel now. To be honest, I am scared to deat to try to rebuild the thing myself because I am clueless about the inner workings and all the thousands of adjustments. I am stuck and need some good advice on next steps. Should I just try to find a carb mechanic here in Tuscaloosa? Should I attempt the rebuild myself having never done it before? Should I just pony up the cash for a rebuilt carb? HELP PLEASE!!!
-
They are pretty easy to rebuild. here is pretty good video.

If your intimidated I have a buddy that may have time to rebuild it for a fee. he is in Rock Creek. How long can you have it down?
-
Thanks. I need to have it back on the road ASAP. It is a daily driver for my daughter. Any idea what the fee would be? I have the rebuild kit and float already.
-
Wow cool daily driver! Let me call him.
-
Thanks. Yeah, she is a junior in HS and the truck seems to be the subject of many conversations when they see her pull up in it. She is a country girl at heart.
-
That is awesome. I called him, he said he is going to be out of town starting tomorrow for at least a week.
-
Thanks for checking. I think I am about to just order an Edelbrock 500 CFM carb from Jegs and be done with it. I have to get it back on the road quickly. Any idea what the difference is between the Performer series and the Thunder series? Both seem to have the same size bore and jets.
Performer - http://www.jegs.com/i/Edelbrock/350/9903/10002/-1
Thunder - http://www.jegs.com/i/Edelbrock/350/18019/10002/-1
-
the thunder is Powder Coated Chrome while the performer is Ball Burnished thats just something i see
-
You can get a refurbished q-jet from an auto parts store.

Good call. I decided to order a remanufactured Quadrajet through Ebay. Found one from a national carburetor shop for $215 delivered with a 1 year warranty. http://www.ebay.com/itm/231101036896. Thanks to everyone who helped me out! I love this forum.
-
I would highly recommend National Carburetors for anyone in the market for one. I ordered this carb and bolted it on and the engine fired right up and runs perfectly. It also came with a one year warranty. The prices are super low! http://www.nationalcarburetors.com/lookup.aspx?partnum=nd4478
