Title: I can't get my key out!

Hello everyone new guy here I recently bought a 1984 k10 short bed step side truck I am so excited to get one of these trucks. So here is my first question on the forum. My truck has a manual 3 speed trans it has the key release lever in the steering column I can't get the key to turn back to take the key out. I can't really find any info about this any where. Does anyone know where I can buy a new leaver/ release or can I just take it out and do away with it? I can't find it at any parts house or online any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

No I guess its broke or stuck is there some trick I am missing?

its pretty simple, once you understand how it works. if you can push it down with your thumb and turn the key back at the same time then something is screwed up with it.

So the reason I couldn't get the key out not because of the key relase leaver it was actuly stuck in the run position
