truck has np205 mated to a 3speed tremec. you guys think it will be easier to pull transfer case first or just pull both at once...I have a couple of floor jacks, but do I need to get a trans jack....harbor freight has one for about 100 bucks....appreciated y'all's input

I always pull them as a set.

i have pulled them both ways. once when i swapped it all out the other when i replaced my t case. i would op for separate if your working by yourself. its not impossible but should make it a little easier to get out a little lighter. going in i would put them together

That is unless I just need to work on the trnsfr case, then just the trnsfr case.

This is probably way past time to be considered necessary info, but either way it's done and you are working on the floor make absolutely sure the truck is high enough on stands to get the works out from under it while on the jack. Ask me how I know this. :-[ OK I'll tell ya..LOL
When I was young and full of muscle and not so much brain (about thirty years ago m/l) and my truck was lifted only four inches I crawled under there on cardboard (in the driveway) and removed the t-case without a jack and let it down to my chest. ???
Two things wrong with this picture 1) I never removed the shift lever even though I removed the center cover. 2) a 205 is really heavy. Let me repeat...REALLY heavy. Especially when it's sitting squarely on your chest and there is nothing you can do. Lifting it back up wasn't gonna happen. My brother, who was something of a long eared type animal that brayed, just sat there pointing and laughing. I don't blame him, he had perfectly cold beer to finish. I would have done the same thing. When he saw I was turning blue he went in and removed the shift lever and I was able to roll it off my chest. Live and learn! Now I just stick a cherry picker into the cab and lift it into position. A one man job then. As a unit. Can't do just the t-case this way however.
