Ok so I pick up this already machined 350 block from a friend. .030 over, lined bored etc. I am re cross hatching the cylinders since it has set for a little bit and had some small surface rust spots.
So I am thinking what else I need to get or have done before I assemble. I know I need an oil pan for it since it didn't come with one. So I start looking for dipstick location.
Guess what? There is no dipstick hole machined in the block.. I know awesome. So I have been having trouble finding and oil pan. I figure maybe some fellow chevy owners have ran into this same problem.
Numbers on the block are as follows
GM 3970010
Front tab V0409TBX

Ok well I went and rechecked everything and I did happen to find the oil dipstick location. Located on the driver side, but it goes all the way through the block.
Dipstick goes down through the head mounting surface. Is this common for Driver side blocks? What oil dip stick do I use?

TBX is the engine code for either a 1970 or 1979 350, truck engine. Any drivers side dipstick tube and dipstick matching that application should work fine

Zieg is right on the money. I have a GM performance crate block and the dipstick hole is in exactly the same place. I got a mr gasket dress up kit couple years back. I use that provides stick and tube. Works fine, reads proper. Should be able to get one at any auto parts store or summit/jegs.
