Title: Modified Door Pulls
Post by: Joe-NC on January 15, 2014, 02:52:24 pm
Have any of you gotten rid of those vinyl door pull straps on your doors? Got any pictures of your own or from the internet you could share?

I hate those things and want to put something else in their place. All my end covers are gone and they're about $20 each which, for the obvious design flaw they present, is too ridiculous for me. I want something sturdy you can actually use to shut the door, or something to cover the holes that looks nice ...polished chrome/aluminum, etc.

I have a pair of black ones out of a 1996 Lincoln Town Car.  The clips that cover the screws are much more robust and with some modification I hope they work out.  I will post pictures when I do the install

I kept looking around and found a few things worth considering:

Billet Aluminum End Caps on eBay: (http://www.ebay.com/itm/DOOR-PANEL-HANDLE-PULL-STRAP-END-CAP-ESCUTCHEON-CHEVY-GMC-CNC-MACHINED-ALUMINUM-/301077407560)
Although I'm not a fan on those exposed screw heads. Maybe some chrome allen heads would look better.

End Caps from Summit Racing (http://www.summitracing.com/parts/opg-l240254/overview/)
They're die cast metal and only $6.97 each.

I don't think they should be used to shut the doors...

I agree. But the arm rest handle has been used so much its coming all to pieces too. The vinyl straps and foam arm rests will always do this. That's why I want something better, like a polished billet aluminum handle, or other solid material. I'll keep looking and post back if I see something nice.
