Title: Headliner-Cloth or Vinyl?
Post by: DnStClr on February 04, 2014, 09:25:54 am
I've decided it's time to re-do the interior of my truck, and got some headliner samples from Capt Kaos. It's a Silverado, and has a cloth headliner. Now that I'm going over the samples I really like the vinyl choices and gotta ask- has anyone else had this dilemma- to choose cloth or vinyl?
Does cloth help give a quieter interior?
Does the vinyl stick to the abs headliner well?
The sponge backing on the vinyl is thin- Can a thicker sponge backing be added to it?
Are there any other things I should consider?

I can't answer your question but my thoughts lean toward vinyl being the quieter of the choices because it is less breathable.  I only have 1 truck with a headliner anyway...

Wha..?! All those trucks and only one headliner?? ;D
Actually, I'm beginning to wonder if dynamat would be a good backing mat'l to the vinyl headliner. I'm leaning towards that direction.

The top of the line trim, Silverado and whatever GMC's version only has the cloth headliners, Custom Deluxe and Scottsdale don't have all that fanciness.  My extended cab was added to because it is a Custom Deluxe as well...  No headliner is only annoying when the roof is sweating and dripping down on you

Don,
The vinyl I sent you was seat vinyl not headliner vinyl.  I can send you vinyl headliner if you want with the cloth seat material.

Ok Chris. I'll get this stuff straight one way or another...
Please do. I'll reimburse you for the mail costs just to show you I'm not so cheap like some of these guys. ::).

If you want sound dampening...I would recommend lizard skin for the roof. It is spray on and will be thinner than dynomat (which is a better product) but I would be afraid your headliner will not sit right. They make two kinds of lizard skin you can shot either one or both, one for sound and one for heat.

What horrible combination of circumstances has caused your roof to do that to you?

I think it sweats on him because it's an extended cab and not a "regular" truck. Nobody can figure out how to make a headliner for it.... ;D

All 6 of my extended cabs have headliners so someone figured it out. I think the metal headliner in Zeigs truck will actually show more craftsmanship than one with the headliner.
I'm not sure about roof sweating inside, that type of humidity isnt an issue in my area, hahaha.

Need to clarify something.  My extended cab does have a headliner.  The statement was that it is a Custom Deluxe which originally doesn't come with a headliner but when it was converted the headliner was added...  The rest of my trucks do not...

I've put on a vinyl headliner in my truck for the first week it was awesome but after that in this Texas heat it started melting the spray adhesive I've already sprayed it multiple time buying the next stronger glue each time and still remains to unglued due to the heat
