Title: lowering
Post by: 78chev2bnice on December 26, 2006, 09:26:00 pm
I want to get a lowering kit for my 78 1/2 ton.  (Im currently in the process of locating and getting the original big block) im looking for a 2/4 drop I want to use spindles and the shackle and hanger setup on it. I would like to know all of the things I should look for and get before I order a kit. I have some 17" rims with 245/65R17 tires so I hope they are not to big.

For 2/4 the only surprise will be the rear bed channel that will need to be notched.

If you ever plan to go lower, you are going to have to remove the rear pieces unless you want a serious drop.

Title: front suspension

I was just wondering if anybody has switched out the big block springs for small block springs?  My truck originally had a big block with the turbo 400, therefor, it has the big block springs. Now it has a small block and a turbo 350 tranny and the truck looks as if it is almost higher in the front than in the rear.  I was wondering if it would be a smart idea to change the front springs in it when I change the spindles?

P.S. I got to get the passenger side of the truck repainted because of some hail.  Its got like 15 dents grand total.  I'll be puttin a roll pan on and fixin the floor of the cab. Maybe a new front bumper too, we'll see.

I've been looking around at drop kits also and I justsaw a kit that has 4" drop leaf springs. Wouldn't this be better than hangers and shackles?

Only if you don't mind losing carrying capacity for the truck.  The lowered aftermarket springs don't have the same capacity as the factory ones.

In the end it depends on what you are trying to do.
