got a 1975 2 wheel drive Cheyenne that has no dome light. the plug with the orange and white wire behind the seat is there and when I bought the truck I hooked up some LEDs to it but I really want to put the actual dome light up there, but I'm not sure where it goes or where to get one. there are no holes in my roof where one would have been , if I drill a hole can I feed the dome light wire through the cab or will it just drill a hole through my roof?? any help is appreciated also pics are great too thank you guys

you can drill one (there is an inner layer and an outer layer of metal) you just need to be careful not to go too far or youll have a hole in the outsside. check the website store may have one there. if i were you i would try to find some pics of a truck that had one stock so you know what you need to do. ill look this weekend and see if any of the trucks i have laying around had dome lights.
-
just remembered I found this under my seat when I first got my truck. was it mounted in a headliner possibly? not the greatest picture but you can see the light in accordance with the sliding rear window that is closed. so near the center of the cab. my headliner is loose. i would image if you pulled your headliner down you could see where it mounts too as there should be a hole already and they just didn't cut the new liner. thats just a guess.

It appears you don't have a headliner from the pictures and you also don't have a hole if that is the case. If that is the case you will have to cut a hole in the roof based on the mount you have. If you position it up there it should be easy to determine where it goes...
-
thank u for the pic. yes no headliner and also no holes from where the light was. there are some holes on my ceiling tho. one on passenger rear side which I'm assuming was from a hook. the other two hole locations are above the visors. any idea what those were?

is there a dome light that mounts by a couple screws that way I don't have to cut a rectangle out of my roof

or should I just cough up the dough for a nice headliner

also any guess on what made these holes (http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/02/19/u8e5etyv.jpg)(http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/02/19/synedy9u.jpg)(http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/02/19/emequpub.jpg)

the holes im not sure. i thought the ones in the ceiling might be for trim but doesn't look like it in the pic. who knows a previous owner may have had some kind of light inside and had the controls and the bezel
the three wires, ground, switched power, and the other probably constant power if the sides are push in lights
-
Those holes are from something the previous owner did.
Adding a headliner won't help with the dome light, you still need to cut a hole.

here you go! :)

held the light up so you can compare it to the hole. i would probably cut the hole just a little bit bigger then the recessed part of the light and then just use self tapping screws to attach it (make sure there not too long of course) if you need anything else let me know like i said i have a few of these trucks threw out the year models so i usually can get pics info etc hope this helps you out,

75_chevy, the pic of your visor! I do not see any holes. If you are wanting to mount a dome light, the first question should be is, do you plan or want to install a head liner in your truck ?
Regardless you will have to get wires up to the light, that means going between the 2 pieces of roof metal or running behind headliner and door post moulding if equipped or installed.
I am thinking of something like this,
http://www.jcwhitney.com/dashtop-highliner-headliner/p2023838.jcwx
It has a dome light built right into the middle.
-
I would like to put one in in the future but for now I'm just going to drill some holes and mount this dome light I got.
here's some more pics of the holes above the visor(http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/02/21/y6e9umy5.jpg)(http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/02/21/3e2epu5a.jpg)

On my 74 it has 3 holes there where the rear view mirror was mounted at one time. I am not sure what those 2 holes would have been for.
-
If you don't feel like cutting a hole in your interior roof (and I wouldn't blame you.) you could disconnect the wires for the overhead dome light, and install or repair your floorboard dome light. Does your truck have the lower dome light? It's under the dash a little bit to the passenger side of the ash tray, if I remember right.
-
I wonder if those two holes above each sun visor are from previously having a panoramic rear-view mirror installed sometime in the past.
-
is that how they mount? I like those things

The mounting holes for those are usually father apart.

I just did a Google image search, and you're absolutely right. Those mirrors attach way farther out.

Looks like I was wrong. See above.
I like those mirrors, too. I've not seen them very often any more, and kind of forgot about them.
