It's been a LONG time since I've done any work to my truck or checked these forums and my eyes started to hurt going throught some of the posts. I even went back and read some of the replies to my early posts.
But this is a new spring coming up and new fire is lit underneath me =)
My question to me, right now, seems very simple.. but i'm sure you all will throw some wrinkles in that I'm sure I didn't think of. I want to rebuild my 400, from bare block. But I'm a newb, and know very little on what I think I know about doing this. So I know research and book buying will be a must to help with this. But my question is, do you any of you think a build like this with everything being new, machine shop costs included, can be done on a budget of around $3,000? I'm not looking for massive power, but I also don't want to be the laughing stock of the 400sbc club either.
Any and all feedback is welcome, any starting points would be great or links to some good info would also be appreciated.. thanks for your comments in advance!!

It definitely can be rebuilt for $3000

How much of that $3K capt is done doing your own work? I'm not sure I'm confident (even with texts) to assemble an engine from bare bones to completion

I think you can get the whole thing rebuilt and assembled for a stock setup almost. (but I am in Alabama, so pricing my be different where you are)
