Title: No Running lights?.....
Post by: bigfsh on March 14, 2014, 12:16:34 pm
recently purchased a 1987 k5 blazer just to drive while im finishing my 87 swb. This k5 was a search and rescue rig somewhere in Virginia. it had all the bells and whistles . A cb, electronic trailer brakes, light bar , dual alternators etc. I removed the majority of the extra wiring and slowly things started working. I removed the trailer brakes and the blinkers started working. I removed the extra wiring up front for the snow plow and the head lights started working. I now have brake lights head lights and turn signals....but no running lights... any help would be greatly appreciated.

No running lights front or rear ?  Here is the wiring diagram (http://www.73-87chevytrucks.com/techinfo/wiring_diagrams/81-87_chass_rr_light.jpg) for the rear chassis and lights for an 87 in the tech section, see wire 8 BRN-9, which I believe is your running light system.
You might have to trace this circuit and see where they spliced ( since you already said by removing other things lights started to work ) into it and what they did or if it is shorted somehow.  You can either start at a light and work your way back to the fuse block checking power, or start where the circuit begins and work your way to the end.  Electrical can be hard some times and may require running a lot of wires down, but you already know that on this truck don't you.

Do the dash lights work?

You would be wise to inventory, inspect and service all of your vehicle ground connections while you are at it.
