Hello there. I'm Adam in Bloomington Il. I don't have a 73-87 pick up but what I do have is a 1977 GMC P-10 step van. It's a 1/2 ton truck with regular upper and lower control arms and springs and shocks, not a solid front axle like the bigger step vans.
My van, being from the midwest has a lot of rust on all the front suspension components. I have all new upper and lower control arms as well as new shocks and tie rod ends to replace the flaking away parts that are on there.
Here's where I'm stumped. I need to replace the engine cross member and I've had absolutely no luck finding anyone anywhere that knows a thing about my truck. The part numbers for the control arms I have (that are specified for my van) are the same as the part numbers for 73-87 1/2 ton pick ups.
I've measured the one in my van and one on a '76 1/2 ton rwd and the dimensions were the same.
Does anyone here have any insight to this?
Here's the van in question.

Welcome from NW Indiana. There is a huge yard in E. Moline that has vans like your in it. It is not to far off I-80 on IL-5

Welcome from California. The actual service manuals in the tech section here list the P models also. Have you tried any online van specific sites or suppliers ?

Take a picture of the current crossmember...

welcome from the PNW.

Hey - we are practically neighbors - I'm in Peoria
Interesting - I did not know they made the P models in a half-ton.
I'm currently in a sealed bid auction for a 1980 G30 High-Cube with only 6600 miles.
