Title: Bed Liner on a trucks body as a durable, offroad worthy paint job?

I've seen a few vehicles with bed liner sprayed on to the body. I'm planning on using my truck out in the desert and it's going to get sctarched up. So I narrowed it down to a rattle can job, or possibly bed lining it.
Has anybody ever done this and/or have any tips?

bed liner will work, just make sure you spray it the right thickness and also make sure the product you chose is UV resistant. If it isnt it will turn all chalky and ugly in about 8 months. I sprayed my truck with rustoleum / Bed liner . Rustoleum comes in quarts so its a lot quicker than rattle cans and cheaper as well ;)

What kind of spray gun did you use?

for the rustoleum? just a normal hvlp spray gun that i use to prime stuff at work with. the bedliner uses a special gun similar to a gun in a scat blast cabinet

     I have done a couple of jeeps over the years like this, was tired of scratching it all up going through tree's and such.  We did everything in bed liner, out and in for ease of washing.  It ended up working great, but as winky said, after a few years don't expect it to look very good as for as the outside being shiny.

I'm not too worried about that far as long as it doesnt cost me a ton. How much did cost you for a whole jeep, give or take?

     This was a few years ago granted, but I would venture to say around $250.00 - #300.00 after all said and done.  I did it my self and bought everything for prep, spraying with a gun, and clean up.  I laid on 2 pretty heavy coats so I wouldn't have to do it again.

I'm going to guess it will cost around $450 to spray the outside of a truck with a decent coat. This of course is using a decent hot bed liner. (Not Walmart knock offs) remember you get what you pay for so make sure you read reviews before you buy. If I were you I would spray it my self. Bed liner is hard to run ;)
