Title: 241 c question

okay ive got some questions about this case my parts truck has which is a 83 model has a 241 transfer case hooked to th350 now i though the 241 was first built in 88 am i wrong i know the case is similar to the 208 a friend of mine was wanting to buy it will it bolt in place of the 208 or are they going to be different will there be a problem with the spline count between the 2

     The NP241 transfer case was manufactured by New Process. This model is chain driven and is provided with both manual and electrical shifting, Chevrolet, GMC and Dodge utilized manual shifting. The NP241 was used in Chevrolet, GM, Dodge pickups & Jeep Rubicon. This unit was utilized beginning in 1988.

     So to answer your question.  You are right, the NP241C started being used in 1988.  Someone put it in your 1983 using a adapter kit (http://www.northwestfab.com/GM-TH350-to-GM-NP208241-27-Spline-Transfer-Case-Adapter_p_879.html) like this one.  What transmission does your friend have ?  If it is a th350 they will need the adapter plate that is with it, if 700r4 then it is what it came off of.
     Both the NP241C and the 208 are 27 spline as is the output shafts of the th350/700R4 transmissions (the 700r4 transmission is longer than the 241c), the only difference is you need the adapter plate I mentioned earlier to move from 700r4 to a th350 transmission.

The 208 can be 27 or 32 spline depending on what it was bolted to.  I assume the RH drop NP241 is the same.

To do the 700R4 to NV4500 in the 76 I needed the 32 spline input that I saved from the CUCV.

his is a 700r4 now i made a post later on im having to use the th350 its hooked to i blew mine up im just trying to keep some confusion down on my later post
