Title: Wiper Switch without Tilt
Post by: ericjw on April 07, 2014, 11:28:48 am
Does anyone know how to split the "upper bowl " from the "lower bowel" on the steering column on an 85 GMC without tilt? I am trying to replace the wiper switch and have not had any luck separating them to get the switch out. Thanks for the help!

We do not have a 85 service manual in the tech section but in the 86 manual (http://www.73-87chevytrucks.com/techinfo/7387CKMans//Service/X8632_1986_GMC_Light_Duty_Truck_CK_G_P_10_to_30_Service_Manual.pdf) in section 3B4-21 (page 260), it shows a breakdown of the steering wheel and tell you how to service and take it apart and out.
From what I read, it does not seem like you "split" the upper from the lower housing, it looks like you have to take the whole thing off after you remove the steering wheel.  Use the link and read through the manual, if you still have questions we can help you out.
