Ok so my coworker has a 78 c10 swb and thinks his truck will be faster than my 77 short step side.
His setup: 350 unknown pistons. Unknown smog heads. Unknown cam. Rusted out headers. Edelbrock performer rpm manifold. Edelbrock 600 carb. Thm350. 3.08 gear. And 31" tires.
My setup: 350 30 over flat tops. Vortec heads. Lunati voodoo 256/262 cam. Jegs vortec intake. Tbi fuel injection. Thm 350. 3.73 gear. And 28" tires.
Should I be worried about him winning?

Uh, no. He has an effective 2.88:1 axle ratio with those tires, while yours is more like 3.86:1, using 29" as stock tire diameter. So all things being equal, you should smoke him.
But all things aren't equal. Heads, pistons, injection you got it all over him. Not sure about that cam, it may take some rpms to get its feet under it, but then its bye-bye. Brake-torque the launch and you will probably have him from the get-go.
Don't embarrass him. Just say, "Yeah, sure, whatever."

only one way to tell, go to a track, and then both of you drive both truck down the truck (one at a time) and see which truck get's the best numbers. (and try your hardest to win in both trucks!).

Remember though, you only win if you can finish the race and come in first. ;D

Vortec heads by all accounts are worth 40 horsepower over a good set of "double hump" 461x heads, let alone over what's most likely a set of factory open chamber 882s. Add that with the gearing and it should be a slaughter

go to a track,
M
lol never had to race on a track. done some racing right in front of the state police station. that gets your heart pumping lol.
but why you doubting your truck? like rich stated you beat him in the gears and your engine will out perform his imo. so unless you have a really long race then you have nothing to worry about
-
I doubt because we don't know a whole lot about his truck and i 'm in new territory for me with tbi with a cam and vortec heads
