Did they make any other truck other that 73-87 Chevys ? Yes they did but they are not as nice.
Here if Florida car shows go all year round and I enjoy going to them. Some are haveing truck nights and I see many more trucks at the shows.
I went to a car show in Plant City FL and saw a lot of cool rides.
1949? Ratrod Chevy oh so cool, also saw a 72 C10 that was cherry but I also saw some other makes.
Like a 77 F150 black and green with race track molding for a FoMoCo it looked good. Also saw a nice Little Red Express Dodge.
And many othert classic trucks.
I like all classic trucks and just picked up a 1952 Dodge, will trade for a 73-87 parts truck.
The Ratrod Chevy I saw has me dreaming. Maybe if I put a 350 in the Dodge that will make it better ?

I think putting Chevy parts on a Dodge, or a Ford, is akin to sacrilege!

I am more on year and style, I like several different kinds of trucks and cars from all makes and years.
-
One thing I have been getting with my 73 from other Chevy guys is. " Why didnt you get a 67-72 C10, they are worth more and look better.
I say the truth, 73-87s are better trucks !
I was born in 71 so thats the body style I like.
Some of the custom trucks I have seen are all FoMoCo, MoPar, or all chevy.
If I built my 52 Dodge, I'd go with a 318 or maybe a 270 RedRam out of a 56 Dodge a friend has for sale.
727 Trans with push button shift, the rearend out of a New Yorker and a square New Yorker steering wheel.
The fun part would be finding bits to put on it to make it look better.
Maybe a Plymouth Truck grill and Willies tale gate.
-
The 2 trucks I would love to build if I ever got the chance, an old willy's 4x4, it would have to be custom though. And a Studebaker 2wd truck, I kinda like the way some of the studebakers look, and hey it got my last name in it. ;D
-
I have many other trucks, just not all squarebodies. This is one of my favorite non-squares.
-
Just have my 3 in my signature...

I am a Chevy guy myself, although I do own a 68 Ford F100 300 srtaight six w/ 3 on the tree.
Never enough time or $ to play with them always!!!
-
Not mine per se, but my work partner has a '66 Ford F100 390 big block 2wd on bags. One of my cousins has 3 Chevy's from the '67-'72 era and a '52 Chevy 5 window that is LT1/4l60e powered. I don't own them, but I have worked a lot on all of them.

i have/had a 89 c10 (gone), 86 c10 (now sitting on a k10 frame) 94 c10 (wifes but its mine ;)) 79 k20 mud truck (legally c10) 75 k20, 84 k30 cummins and my 04 impala super charged x2 first one found a nice tax ditch to call home. not to mention a 92 merc sable (it was free)

I was getting some gas when a cool old truck pulled up. I didnt know what it was, just couldnt place it. I had a utilitie box and look to be a 70s truck.
So I asked the guy what is it ?
Turns out it was a Jeep truck and he bought it new. Powered by a 360 MoPar and every thing still works.
He is going to restore it !
Way cool.
As a old truck guy it cought my eye.

(http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/05/11/2y2evada.jpg)I have had a 73 Bronco for 20 years
Swapped In fuel Injection. Power steering. Disc brakes
And a NV 3550. 5 speed(http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/05/11/seryqu9y.jpg)

I have a friend with a 79 F250 which he bought new ! Ok, it's not a Chevy. But I am doing my best to get him to restore it. FoMoCos are ok in some ways.
This fall some of the guys in my area are going to a classic truck show.
Should be cool.

It makes me want to cry when I see a Chevrolet with a Chrysler or Ford power train in it. But, the only time I'll give a Ford or Dodge a second look is if someone has installed some Chevy iron in it.

(http://www.cummins.com/cmi/images/Globe_NAmerica.jpg) does this count for mopar power?

That makes me curious if anyone managed to stuff a full-size Cummins into a pickup truck body. And have it be semi-functional.

I'm pretty proud of that pun. I'm not usually that clever.

I don't know how reliable my sources are for this, but I've heard that the Cummins motors were so incredibly heavy that they quickly wore out the front suspension on those Dodges. Is there any truth to that?
I'm not faulting Dodge nor Cummins no matter. I'm glad that Dodge decided to use a proven, sturdy diesel in it's pickups. And I'm glad that Cummins didn't make a light-weight, failure prone disposable motor.
I'm appalled by some of the tiny gasoline engines so many motor home manufacturers put in their RVs.

When I was looking into buying a first gen dodge cummins (well a 93 model) and from all the forms and such I never saw a problem with wait on the front suspension. what I did see is when people swaped the 6bt into other trucks (mostly bronco II's rangers' explores etc) that was a problem.

the cummins weights about 1100lbs i think the 454 weights about 700lbs. dodge truck's front ends are known to crap out even with the gas motors. but yeah that extra weight doesn't help any, have you rode in a dodge gaser vs a cummins. they both will beat the crap out of you. but you would be surprised like adrima said about the people who have a 1500 or less and want a 5.9. why not just put a 4bt (4 cylinder cummins) in their truck, they just want to say i have a cummins and i cant blame them lol
-
they both will beat the crap out of you.
Now that is truth right there. Dodge's are the worst for people with low back problems.
-
yap, would not want a 6bt in something less than a full ton. one reason I did not go and get a dodge I have a bad back. even my dad's 2000 1500 sucked on my bad (with a mag v8)

Took a 2002 dodge 2500 with a Cummins up north. Me and my buddy had to stop every hour don't know if its the way the truck rode or we're getting old. Would like to blame it on the truck. Not to mention if you any fat on your chest you will need a support bra
-
Support bra...very bad mental image.

I own a 02 2500 Dodge 4-wheel drive with the anemic 360. It rides like a truck no doubt. But it steers as well as any truck I have ever owned. The lightweight D60 in the rear is a joke. It has the name of a Dana 60 but it's not even as strong as a corporate 10 bolt. It's had the pinion bearing replaced at least three times now. It's pitiful. And we don't load it down at all and the trailer we pull is only 3000lbs. Plus, for being only 12 years old it's rusting out from the inside. The reason I love it? Room, it had so much more room in the front of the cab than most of the others when we bought it in 03. It is the quad cab model btw. The fuel milage is beyond terrible for that year truck, barely ever exceed 9 MPG.
-
That Cummins we took got 16 with the trailer and truck behind her
-
Rub it in! My BIL bought a 06 new with the cummins. With some minor chip tuning he was making near 20 all the time until he hooked his 32 foot campar on back and it went down to about 16. :o
Dodge gas engines never were known for mileage though. Maybe the newer ones have changed.
