Just bought an 85 k10 that someone swapped the 305 out for a 350. There is a wire from the fuel pump going through the cab and stuck under a fuse in the fuse box labeled "idler." Really annoying because when you bump the wire next to the clutch, the fuel pump will cut in and out or just die if its idling. How is this supposed to be properly wired?..

Pre 1987 trucks had a mechanical pump, so what fuel pump do you have? An 85 will have a mechanical pump on the block from the factory.

Welcome to the site 85chevyk10, it seems that the PO took out/bypassed the mechanical fuel pump and installed a electric fuel pump. (Hence the cutting out when you hit the wire).
Your best bet is to rewire the fuel pump so the wire it out of the way. You will need to wire it to a hot ignition wire, so when you turn on the key it energizes. See the wiring diagrams (http://forum.73-87chevytrucks.com/smforum/index.php?topic=11766.msg87585#msg87585) that we have in the tech section. Go to your year of truck and the proper page and find where you would like to splice into which circuit. Happy wiring. ;D
