Title: Hey there, from Dallas Texas. :)
Post by: twiceroadsfool on May 06, 2014, 10:58:36 pm
Hey everyone.  Great forum you have here. Im Aaron, from Dallas. (Well, im really from Syracuse NY but i live in Dallas now). Im actually on a lot of forums... A couple for work, one for the Subieroo, this one, and one for my old Pontiac too.

Back in 1997-98 i had an 85 K10, 400 small block and a TH350... And with a bunch of complicated family drama, it "disappeared."  16 years later, i was working on my house and realized its been getting dang inconvenient trying to go to Home Depot for stuff, while trying to cram it in my Subaru (07 Legacy GT, turbo 5 speed).  So i have been spending weekday mornings browsing ebay looking at square bodies, and finally found one and bought it.

Im calling it Frankentruck.

I knew going in to it that the owner had pieced it together from a number of different trucks:  Its a 76, but has an 80's bed, an 80's dashboard, a later model 40/20/40 bench, and so on.  The more i dig around in the truck, the more i learn its more and more frankentruck... But i dont mind.  I wanted one pretty bad (after the drama 15 years ago), and i dont mind doing some work.  Most of the hot mess is the interior.  Here are a few pics. :)

5.7, SM465, NP205. The instrument cluster is a total hot mess of 80's and 70's gauges.  Gas gauge isnt working, not convinced the temp gauge is either. Speedometer is drastically wrong (never swapped the gear when the taller wheels and tires went on). All small potatoes, though. Seatbelts dont work, nor does the emergency brake. I wont move it much until the e-brake, seat belts, and speedo/gas gauge are fixed.

Ive been reading here a few weeks, educating myself about several things i know ill have to do.  Im sure ill have a ton of questions.

Hi Aaron.  Welcome to the forum from Alaska.

Despite the description, the truck looks pretty nice.  I really like the wheels.  Once you have all the issues resolved you will have a really nice truck and the satisfaction of having done it right.
