Title: 1979 c10 inline 6 w/power steering belt falling off
Post by: Lowhoe775 on May 17, 2014, 08:19:56 am
Have a problem with my v belts falling off. The water pump pulley is not lining up with crank . Water pump pulley is in about 1/2" difference than crank pulley. Replaced belts two times and they get put on tight. I think it can be the water pump pulley is going bad and for some reason is being pushed towards the engine more. Please help thank you (http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/05/17/jygary3e.jpg)

Check to see that your crank harmonic balancer isn't loose

I tried tugging back and forth on it and it's not moving will try and see if the bolt is tight today. Thank you

Lay underneath the front and see if the balancer is walking off the crankshaft.  I think the I-6 are a press fit and I've had them come loose

Took off the crank pulley and found that it was bad. Rubber showing in pic. Anyone having this problem you need to replace the crank pulley (http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/05/22/ruvatebe.jpg)

When you put those back on or want to tighten them make sure you use an installer, good chance youll strip the crank threads if you use the balancer bolt.
