I just put in a after market cigarette lighter and when I plugged it in I heard a pop and now the lighter or dome lights don't work. I checked all the fuses and none appeared to be blown. Any ideas?

Replace the blown horn fuse.

I will give that a try. The aftermarket lighter came with a metal threaded shaft in the center of the rear of the lighter and a tab on the outer case. The original lighter only had the the tab but it went to the center of the lighter. When I attached the hot lead to the tab on the outer case this is when it blew. Is this some sort of ground spot?

The outer tab is the ground connection. The center post is the hot connection. By plugging up to the tab you grounded the battery wire and popped a fuse. Look at it this way, now you know that fuses work. ;)

A picture would be nice, but if I read that right, the outside casing for the cigarette lighter should be were it is grounded. What brand of cigarette lighter did you buy ? Rich beat me to it.
-
Not sure what brand but it was an aftermarket. I modified a connector to hook up the lighter to the truck wiring and everything seems to be working fine. The horn fuse was blown. I missed it the first time.

Glad to hear you got it fixed.
