Title: What Trim was this Truck Can you confirm what it was?
Post by: CAMTHEMAN1988 on May 26, 2014, 11:04:09 am
My Dad had a 1974 Chevrolet Pick Up (Unknown Trim???)   he had it in the mid 1980's  to 1993.  It was bought from my (Grandfather who was the 2nd Owner who bought it from the original owner in 1974 with only 9,000 miles) I remember it pretty well even though we sold it 21 years ago.

We have only one picture where it is in the backround  too far away to identify the badge on the Right Fender.
I remember as a kid though it said something like Scottsdale or Custom Deluxe?   I swear it had to be one of those two.  The year was 1974 It had the Blue and White Factory Paint Job where there is White in the middle and Blue on the Bottom and Blue on the Top, It was 2WD, It was a Half Ton, had a 350 V8,Manual Trans. If i remember Correctly it had a  Rear (Diamond Steel Pattern Bumper) It had the Bench Single Seat it was non extended Cab. It had the Chevy Hubcaps it Had the Front Grille with the Gold Chevy Bowtie   So if anyone can confirm what Trim Scottsdale or Custom Deluxe and any other info (the more info the better) also anyone know the Maximum Stock amount of Weight you could put in the Bed and the Maximum weight you could Pull/Tow  I would Greatly Appreciate it

I looked at the Factory Identifiers i could find online they are confusing  even based on what i know the Truck had.

The Picture of the Truck i posted (is not the truck) the truck in the picture appears to be a 1978 from the article i found it at.  But it looks Absolutely Identical to our 1974

Back in 74 you could get just about any trim on any trim level.  Towing is dictated by the brake package, as well as the rear end ratio, engine/trans combo.  There are too many variables to even venture a guess.  Welcome to the site.

What do you remember about the interior? That will tell the tale or at least rule out some of the possibilities.

Yeah i spoke to my Gramps yeah he bought from the original owner in 1974 at the time of purchase it only had 9,000 miles on it.  He said he remembers it was probably the most basic model he said it probably would have been the Custom or Custom Deluxe. Which explains  why i remember the fender badges saying Custom Deluxe or for a while i had Scottsdale in my mind but i guess the Scottsdale trim was not available in 1974.  Based on what the first poster told me.

The Interior from what i think it was blue the seats were the bench cloth it had manual roll up windows.  The Interior from what i could find on google images looked alot like this one and I swear that seat in this picture is the same seat that was in our 1974 i assume you could get the same interior options from 1973-1987

That is a seat cover, very commonly seen in trucks available from Walmart and any auto parts store.

All I can offer is that it was a good truck whatever it was. if it was a custom it could have had a rubber mat on the floor, it could have had carpeting or it could have had nothing. The same holds true for any year however if it was bought used. Sorry I can't be of any more help. Try looking at as many on-line brochures as possible and maybe one will light the bulb.

On a side note, I bought a six year old 78 GMC. I drove that truck as a daily driver, a fun truck river running, and went mountain climbing with it in Colorado. I owned it for over seven years. And I can't remembers all the details of the interior trim. I saw them every day. But it's like a test I once saw on TV when they asked 50 folks what color their bedroom curtains were. Most of them (the men) got it wrong. It's a matter of seeing something so often you don't pay attention anymore.

So, no matter, I know this is a wiki and not to be taken as gospel, but it's still an OK reference.
