1979 C-10. Originally had a 250 6-cyl with a 3 spd. transmission. I just bought the truck and I was trying to figure out the rear end. It now has a 350 V-8 with a 400 tranny.
Thanks

count the bolts on the axle cover that will tell you what type of axle it has. It is most likely a 12 bolt or a 14 bolt. Could even have a 10 bolt but not likely.
-
count the number of rear end cover bolts......10=10 bolt, 12=12 bolt i highly doubt it has a 14 bolt.

I'd guess it's a 10-bolt rearend, maybe a 12. I doubt it's a 14-bolt since I believe those were for only 1-ton models.

He posted Valentine's Day, either he figured it out or it doesn't matter now. :-) 14-bolts came on 3/4 tons as well, trucks and vans, in FF and SF.

A 1979 C-10 that originally came with a 250I6 and a 3 speed transmission probably came with a GM 10 bolt.
