Title: stiff windows?
Post by: hondarider188 on June 02, 2014, 02:24:06 pm
on my 1983 k10 (with manual windows) the drivers side window is a lot stiffer then it should be when it goes up or down. every now and all of a sudden it will be very smooth when I roll the window up. the passenger side does it also but it's not nearly as bad. I haven't been to worried about it but I have my door off right now and the entire bottom section cut off for rust removal and new patch panels going in, but before the panels go in I was wondering if theirs an easy fix while I have really good access with the door cut open. Thanks

Lube up the rollers real good and adjust the tracking if need be. If the weather stripping is shot, it can be difficult to adjust sometimes as it can create pinch spots.

how do you adjust the track? I didn't even know you could do that.

Manipulate might be a better word. Where the side tracks bolt towards the bottom there's a little give there to loosen on the vent side and on the door handle side, also making sure the rollers and their track haven't become bent or tweaked. Sometimes aligning body panels and other parts you have to use a little calibrated muscle massaging to get everything to do what's supposed to.

The lower bolt on the rear track is slightly slotted, but otherwise you have to bend it.  It probably has gotten bent or the weatherstripping is back or it jumped to the outside of the weatherstripping.
