Title: U-joint help ASAP please!!!
Post by: thefarmboy21 on June 11, 2014, 09:04:15 am
A friend of mine just recently aquired a cobbled up mess of a Chevy. Long story short, he's been to every parts store in the tri state and personally inspected/mic'd their universal joint inventory......NONE are the same. Yesterday he went to 4 stores, all different companies and took all the googled part numbers for the 73-87's he could find so we need HELP!!! Here's what we know about it:
Cab/title is an 86 GMC 1/2 ton 2wd. Sitting on a 4x4 chassis of unknown origin. Has a 350/350 combo backed by the NP203 full time trasfer case. Has a Corp 14 full floater in the rear and I'm not sure if it has the 44 up front or the odd looking 10 bolt.

The U-joint we need mates the rear shaft to the 14-bolt rear. Also it's what most people call a "$#*() joint" Joint is narrower than tall and has two differen size bearing caps as well. Thanks in advance!

Find a shop that builds axles or driveshafts. They should stock or be able to get the conversion u-joints. Bring them the shaft and the yoke.

Well I just would've thought it was a stock u joint for one ton or a half ton but we can't find it. Anyone know if there's a conversion joint for a half ton driveshaft to the corp 14?

I know there is, just don't know a part # offhand. Find a spicer part number for both u-joints, then google the conversion u-joint part number. Or call a driveshaft shop and ask if they have them. Should be fairly common.

see if these help,
these are common u joint conversions for gm. take the u-joint to NAPA and give them the numbers with the "X"
                      NAPA part numbers
1330 /1350 = 5-648X
1310 /1350 = 5-460X
1310 /1330 = 5-134X
the "X" is part of the part number so they need that also

Yea, we got it....it was the 3-3140. He got two from Autozone. I can't remeber what Napa's part number was. We did learn that he has parts from at least three different trucks, if not more. Regardless he took it to a big rock buggy competition and said it did fantastic through the mud. Gears and maybe a diff cam are I'm the near future. Thanks for all the help!
