Title: interior lights
Post by: shawnwatson2424 on June 14, 2014, 09:48:16 pm
So after a failed attempt of putting on a speedometer cable well technically I didn't fail but for whatever reason it didn't work besides that. The turn signal, hazards, bright thingy works but the lights for the speedone ter don't work. I'm assuming it's the dimmer switch?

Couple of things, did you lube the speedometer cable before installing ?  Also, did you check for power at the speedometer socket before plugging it in and did you get it plugged in correctly ?
There are wiring diagrams in the tech section.

The cable works I know I tested it with a drill I think the whole mechanism is screwed up cause it would turn just not steadily

Did you check the bulbs in the back of the cluster?

Here's a bit of a update after getting a new bulb and tested the sockets I still got nothing not even anything at the instrument panel lights fuse with the switch on so I guess to a wiring diagram I go. And about the speedometer I figured out I need two cables one from speedometer to the cruise control transducer and I need one to go from the transducer to the back of tranny which happens to be about 60 inche's so had to special order it

The Tech Section article, Diagnosing dash lights that don't work (http://forum.73-87chevytrucks.com/smforum/index.php?topic=26558.0) used in conjunction with the 1979 Wiring Manual (http://www.73-87chevytrucks.com/techinfo/7387CKMans//Wiring/ST_352_79_1979_Chevrolet_Light_Truck_Wiring_CK_10_30_Only.pdf) should help.
