Title: 700r4 not working at all

Hi, I have a 1986 GMC Jimmy 4x4 with a 305 and a 700r4 transmission. The previous owner was driving around for a long time with no TV cable. I drove it around like that for a while because it was my first square body and I didn't know how important it was. Well I was driving on the highway and shifted from 4th to 3rd on the column and it lost drive. After that it would only drive in 1st and 2nd gear. Now if it try's to shift from 1st to 2nd it locks the back wheels up. What could cause this. Any help would be appreciated.

Sounds like you burned up the 3-4 clutch pack and possibility the tork converter.
It's rebuild time.

my 4l60 doesnt have 3rd or 4th also. again someone didnt hook the tv cable up and drove her like that. never heard of locking the wheels up when shifting from 1st to 2nd

I was a bit surprised myself when it did it but it defiantly locked them up.
