Title: th350, 74 K20 - can trans vent tube be installed while in truck?
Post by: 74k20 on June 28, 2014, 11:40:14 am
Ughhhhh.  About to install my th350 trans and realized I don't have a vent tube.  Our local NAPA does NOT have one.  Can I install the trans and add the vent later, or will I NOT have easy access once in?  Guess it will be obvious once I get it up and in, but am I wasting time?  I want to install NOW as this is my only free time to wrench.

Thanks,

MJ

I RAN A 5'' METAL TUBE WITH A INLINE FUEL FILTER ON THE END FOR YEARS WITH NO PROBS,IT IS POSSABLE TO INSTALL ONE WITH TRANNY IN WE USED MY NEIGHBORS SONS SKINNY ARMS TO DO IT JUST MAKE SURE THE HOLE IS KEPT CLEAN,WAS JUST REMINDED THAT WE USED A METAL LINE WITH A SMALL INLINE ONE WAY CHECK VALVE WE GOT AT A TRUCK STOP AND A TRANNY SHOP NOW USES THAT EXCLUSIVELY,HOPE THAT HELPS YOU,I ALSO USED A 12''X12'' OR SO BAKE PAN I GOT AT A YARD SALE WITH A 1'' BOLT IN THE CENTER AND PUT A 3/4'' PLYWOOD INSIDE SO THE BOLT DONT DENT THE TRANS PAN AND IT MAKES IT A ONE MAN JOB WHEN USED ON A FLOOR JACK,THE PAN IS A THICK ALUMINUM TYPE. WRENCH AWAY !

Cool ideas.  I got VERY lucky, as I found a spare trans that had one. And once again got LUCKY it came out without breaking.  All is now installed and good to go.  Extending it does seem like a good idea.  Now waiting for the t-case to get done from rebuild.

Thanks,

MJ
