Title: Trading for 1976 c10...worth it? Also whats the mpg.
Post by: ronnietlane on June 30, 2014, 09:55:31 am
I have a 2000 s10 ext cab 4wd im thinking of trading for a c10. My s10 has lots of rust and has a rebuilt title. The c10 is a 77 with a 350 and 4 speed manual out of a camaro and also a 3.73 rear. The owner claims it only has 69000 original miles but its probably turned over. He also claims no rust but you can see some bondo in pics. Is this worth the trade and also what kind of mpg should i see. Im going to go look at it this week. I know these trucks arent made for good mileage but just curious of what i should expect. I would like to use it as a daily driver and ive always wanted an old pickup. I drive about 1 hr round trip 4 days a week. Heres the ad on craigslist: http://swv.craigslist.org/cto/4520952337.html

Gas mileage is going to be about what Fitz estimates, maybe with a good tune and carb adjustment with an easy foot might net you more if your normal commute is not the freeway.  3.73 and 70 mph suck gas with those height of tire.  No power steering, no power brake from the looks of the pictures.  It is my kind of truck but I like it old school and less to go wrong but you have to work to drive it...

It is ultimately up to you weather you think it is worth it, but do not expect to get more than 14 mpg, depending on how well it is tuned and the drive train is you might get less.

Thanks for the replies. Yeah if i can get close to 14 id be happy with it.  Only other thing im concerned about is driving it in the snow. Hoping weight in the bed and a light foot will be fine.
