Title: Has anyone had experience with these headers? (ss long tubes)
Post by: travisr1988 on July 11, 2014, 01:59:20 pm
Just curious as to whether or not anyone has used or heard anything about this set of stainless steel longtubes from ebay. http://www.ebay.ca/itm/251513925776?redirect=mobile. I'm thinking about trying them out but would like some reviews or experiences with them or the company before risking the money.

They're definitely priced right. That's cheaper than most painted steel. Doesn't hardly seem legit.

I have not had any experience with the headers or company.  But as stated by thefarmboy21, the price is right and if they don't last you didn't shell out a lot of money.
I will tell you what I have experience in.  Stainless steel.  There are different levels or grades of stainless steel.  I looked and could not find any information on what the headers are made out of.
So with that being said, if they are made out of milder stainless (which I am almost positive because of the price), expect discolorization quickly and a lot of heat transfer through them.  DO NOT wrap them with anything, moister trapped inside will collect and even with the milder stainless steel it will start to rust on the coating and can eventually eat through the milder SS.  I have seen it with my own eyes on tanks for waste water streams.
Hope this has helped somewhat.  For the price if you could live with the heat transfer off them and the discolorization, I say go for it.

The truck will end up being my dd for a while. The manifolds from it don't work well with the vortec heads, so, instead of buying new manifolds I decided I'm getting headers. I've wanted headers for quite some time, but money is always the issue. I talked to my Dad who actually (surprisingly) supports me getting headers now, as long as they don't cost too much and are of good quality. I was going to buy a set of used hedman ceramic coated headers (part #69088) for $200, however he advised me to get stainless if I can get them cheaper. I know Vile had good luck with a set of shorties he bought on ebay and I'm hoping I'll have good luck with these long tubes.

However, I am not 100% set on these headers, if someone has any suggestions on headers for less than $200 please chime in, stainless is preferred.

Quick question guys. Do I need to look for anything different because I have vortec heads?

Not as far as I know. Mine all look to have the same exhaust port placing etc. And my garage looks like a machine shop exploded right now.

Alright, so I ended up buying a set of blackjacks from a coworker for now.  He says he had them on a mid 70s chevy truck and eveb painted them with high temp paint before selling them to me for $50. However,  after sticking them on the motor it looks like I have a problem...the driver header hits the lower control arm mount and they won't seal to the head. Now what?

Well as for the flange to head, you're either gonna have to get really good gaskets and straighten the flanges and hope they seal OR weld on new flanges. As for the control arm you're gonna have to modify it. IMO toss em and get a different set.

Well, the flange is okay, it doesn't set against the head right because of the control arm. Can I move the motor back a little and still clear the distributer?

Sounds like the headers are wrong.

As it turns out I had the motor in the wrong position. Looks like they'll fit with the motor in the rear position.
