I just bought a '79 GMC with '88-98 seats, the ones with the built in female buckles. The truck doesn't have belts. I need to install belts to license the truck. My question is will the male ends of '73-87 lap belts work with the female buckles from the newer seats?
Thank you in advance.

First off welcome to the site. As far as I know the seat belt male part (the actual buckle) is smaller on the 88 up.
Though the 1 ton and Blazer/Suburban line went to 91 with the same body style. I am not sure if they changed the belts in those or kept the same and the 73 - 87. Someone else will have to chime in with that answer.

For what its worth our 91 K5 kept the older style buckles and belts... But, then again, the 88-91 R/V series trucks did not use the 88-up c/k series seats either, so it makes sense they would not use the newer belt style in a way....

Thx guys.

Some belts have a larger tongue than others so double check. Or just make sure both parts come from the same truck. Also some trucks had the belts with the two separate retractors one on the floor for the lap belt and one about halfway up the door frame for the shoulder portion
Other trucks had one retractor on the floor with both rollers in it (http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/07/23/tugutuqy.jpg)
