Hey Hey
This is my first post so Hi All. I have been looking for info on replacing rocker panels, I found most of the info I need but someone said that you when you cut out the rusty metal some thing could drop up to a 1/2". And you will have to jack it back. OK now my question how do you tell if it drop and how much it drop, and how or were do you jack it back.
Oh my truck is a 76 Chevy C10 stepside short bed.i will add pix after I know how LOL
Thanks
Dave

Welcome being your first post. I believe the 1/2" possibility is when you remove the old rocker that is all tied together with the floor and the rest of the cab. The cab relaxes and spreads apart and the floor drops. Think of the capital letter A and the cab floor is tied to the rocker, removing the cross - the floor "Might" drop depending on how sound the rest of the cab floor is. Blazin should chime in if I am leading you astray...

From what I have read also, Zieg is on the right path. Once it is loose it can sag and even shift. You need to take careful measurements before and make sure everything is back in it's proper place when reassembly occurs.
Welcome also to the forum.

Hey Hey
Zieg85 where do I take the measurement your talking about. I am not sure where to measure, the gaps are good all around but one aide by the door handle. That's off by a 1/2 " or so.
Thanks

Your taking loose the door gasket that slides over the lip around the cab. As low as you can put a horizontal mark on both the hinge side and striker side. That is what you don't want to grow. Personally I would tack a piece of bar stock to keep it stationary before you take the old rocker out.

Does the door close good now? Are all the gaps correct?
As long as the cab hasn't already sagged due to rust tack weld a piece of flat stock or narrow angle iron down low across the door opening. With the door closed is better.
