I know this has been beat to death, this is one of those things where you do a search and you get too many results, most off topic. I've got to replace my rag joint, again, and going to change to u joint. The best I can tell, the column shaft spline is 1 - 48 (.985), the steering gear is where I can't figure out what it is. To count ¼ of the threads is 9, best I can tell, X 4 would be 36. I get .773 to .796 depending on where I measure across the splines, not at the flat. The truck is a '76 Scottsdale, 2wd, power steering, not sure of box #, small block.

I imagine Flaming River or Ididit or some biz that sells lots of steering joints would know what size it is

I've got one coming from Flaming River, 1 - 48 X 13/16 - 36. I'll post in a couple of days if I did right or wrong. Kept digging online for a couple of more hours, this seems to be the best bet. Their margin of error in the measurements was =/- .015, 13/16 is the closest.

I just tried to do the 94 Cherokee swap and ran into that same problem. I never realized that they had different size splines. Where did you get your shaft. I picked mine from the junk yard for 10 bucks so Im not out much

The shaft is the factory installed shaft.

1 - 48 X 13/16 - 36 is the winner.
