Title: Autometer Electric water temp Gauge

Anyone on here have any experience with installing these in a sbc  . hat type of wire did you use for the sender. Where you mounted the sender head or intake ?

i'm going to try to finish installing my cyberdyne temp gauge today.   The sender should have a lead on it(small amount of wire coming off it)  Wire gauge is probably 18, 16, 14 any of those should be good.

Popular opinion is that the sender should be in the intake manifold near as possible to the thermostat outlet neck.

I agree with the placement but I had to move the sending unit for my electric fan to there . The biggest problem Im having with all of this is the wiring for either of the two getting to hot and melting

Which intake manifold do you have?  i'm sure we'll all get back to you with more detail, but i'm kind of busy right now.



If i could side-track for a moment, just to make clear NPT means i DON'T need any thread sealant?

Awiki - use 18-gauge, dark green, SXL or GXL rated, stranded copper wire.  SXL & GXL have excellent heat and ozone tolerance for automotive applications.  Be careful to avoid laying any wiring against the exhaust!  Dark green is GM's standard coolant temp wiring color code.  18 gauge is more than adequate for low-current gauge wiring.

Stewart - always use PTFE pipe sealant on NPT fittings.  ARP makes some of the best paste sealant (http://www.summitracing.com/parts/arp-100-9904) available.

Okay sender is installed with 14g wire I picked up from autozone. I think Im going to order some GXL wire from Amazon and move the electric fan sender to the head and the temp gauge sender to the intake . That seems to be the common answer. Thks for the replies

Update:

i couldn't use the older cyberdyne temp gauge because the newer sender # CYB-SENSS6E is not compatible with the older cyberdyne temp gauge # 8003 which is a 90's model.

The sender IS compatible with the new cyberdyne temp gauge #CYB-B220E460Y

But i went with the autogage electric temp gauge #2355 because it was $30 free shipping vs. $90 for the new cyberdyne because $80 + shipping = $90.

Gauge seems to work well.
