Hey guys, building a motor for my '82. Looking to go with a solid flat tappet cam that makes solid torque, rev limiter will be set at 6000. Engine is a 350 bored .040 and will have 190cc Wissota iron heads with a 64cc combustion chamber, .550" springs (but that can be changed). Compression will be around 9.7:1. Thanks for the help guys :)

What's the proposed purpose of this motor? Why solid?

It's a trail truck, just for going to OHV parks and light mudding. I want to go solid because I have yet to build a motor with one, seems like a good opportunity seeing as it isn't a daily driver and I won't have to set the lash every month.

had one, not worth it...

My 69 Camaro had a crate 350 LT1 370 HP motor with a Crane solid cam in it.
That motor was installed in the car back in 1978 (anyone else remember when that motor was available at the GM parts counter?). It was a great set up back in its day, but technology has come a long way since then.
Adjusting the valves was fun at first, but it grew old quickly.
I still have the car. Now it has a 350 1 piece rear main seal block with vortec heads and a Speed Pro roller cam. The current motor has been in the car for 10 years now. This motor is as close to maintenance free as it gets. I change the oil every springtime when I take the car out of storage and it was tuned up 4 years ago (it's driven a few thousand miles a year).
I guess in the car show crowd it' may sound cool to say it has a "solid cam", but to me its just 40 year old technology.
