Found a 86k20 4speed with granny gear, looks to be in good shape and honestly what im looking for.....except, that it has the utility type box on it with the side compartments. My question is, this is removable in place of a reg style long bed correct?? and what all things need to be dont to make it happen other then basically bolting down a new bed and doin the tail lights??

As long as the truck is a long bed to begin with, your correct, take off the utility bed and bolt down a new bed, wire up the lights.

Run the VIN, it will tell you for sure what it was originally. Don't assume it will work without at least measuring the wheel base or you may wind up with a gap...

what it was originally??
Cab and chassis version or originally a pickup. Mine ended up being a cab and chassis after I took the utility bed off of it. Cab and chassis wheel base is 135.5 and that was why I have a 4" wider gap between the cab and bed. Check your glove box to see if it says it is a 131.5" wheel base and if it does you should be fine.

thanks for the info....i was under the impression the utility box (bed) was simply a bolt on in place of a long or short style bed

wheel base info is listed in the glove box? the truck is a drive away, what info in the VIN would i be looking for to make sure that a long bed could simply be bolted on??

So was I but I learned something with my 1984 pictured. My cab and chassis was not drilled on top to bolt a bed to it so I had to drill holes. Being that yours is a 3/4 ton 20 series you should be fine but best to check first so their are no surprises

Trying to get the seller to check wheelbase or vin, he just insists its an 8 foot bed and nothing more
