How is everyone?
I have a task here, and am needing to replace the engine and trans. What is the best way to do this on a 1985 305/th350 C10? I want to remove/replace the engine and trans together as a unit , with the hood and radiator removed. Is there enough room to pull them together, or will the engine and trans need to be separated ? I was also told to make sure it is up high on jack stands. Thanks for your suggestions.

It is possible to remove them as a unit. You are going to have to have the truck up pretty high because you will have to drop the trans down and bring it almost straight up out of the engine compartment.
Using a load leveler and a cherry picker with enough height (a forklift or chain host in a shop would be best) to get it high enough to clear the transmission after you picked it up is essential.
Make sure you clear all the lines out of the way in the engine bay and you will have to take off the transmission cross member to make it easier.
Oh yea, have at least 1 other person there to help you, do not want to hear any bad stories later, good luck.

Height is certainly your friend and will save some time if you need too. But firstly do it safe and chock both the front and rear of the front tires. Jack up the rear as high as your equipment will allow. I found that the rear up and front on the ground with a load leveler on the cherry picker is the cheapest way to do it safely with out running out of lift from the picker and stil have the clearance for the end of the tranny. But it is surely possible even in just a driveway
