Title: big block rods
Post by: 80stepsideguy on June 27, 2005, 09:39:00 am
Question,
how much horsepower can a stock set of 396 rods withstand?I wanna build this 396 to withstand about 450hp but i wanna make sure before i get a new set of pistons i dont need a set of rods.I am more of a bodyman then a mechanic so i wanna know what i need to get before i buy it all.
thanks
pat

if they are properly machined, it shouldnt be a problem.
Actually you cant really use horsepower as a ruler for how much a compnent cant handle...it depends how its done. light pistons will make a rod last longer...lighter pistons & rods will make a crank last longer. building your power without big rpm will make stuff last longer. adding a big shot of N2O or lotsa boost will kill parts fast.
