Title: need bottom end rebuild?
Post by: shortchevy84 on July 06, 2005, 12:00:00 am
hey, looking at all new vortec stuff for my 350. will i need special bearings/pistons/connecting rods to handle the new horsepower? i'm only putting in stock vortec stuff. my engine is already rebuilt, but i want more power, so i'm upgrading everything to vortec. can i still run lower octane fuel, even with my flat top pistons?thanks for the input.

What do you mean you are upgrading everything to Vortec stuff?  If the motor is already rebuilt, what are you changing to "upgrade" to Vortec stuff?  What makes a motor a Vortec is the heads/intake, that's all.

yeah, thats what i mean, the new heads and intake, rockers and covers, so i was just wondering if the bottom end would be able to handle the new power. i'm assuming it would. but its better to be safe than sorry. thanks!

Not sure what your current heads are, but you aren't going to pick up alot of power by just swapping heads/intake.  Your bottom end is fine.
