I can say my wife isn't pleased but is accepting on this new addition due to arrive Sunday. This is clean for a northern truck. It really drives nice and besides a little exhaust work to pass emissions it is not to bad. I've been without a truck that is a worker far too long. Now I won't rush on my 86 and do it right.
Some stats, Custom Deluxe trim long bed 4.1L 3 on the tree with PS & PB and a blue I can live with. The wiper squirt-er even works. I'll post pics on Sunday.
-
Looking forward to the pics. I always thought It was odd that GM Keep the 3 on the tree around for so long.
-
It came at 8 pm, pictures tomorrow
-
Here are some pictures
-
Nice, the bed looks brand new!
-
Nice looking truck. I wish I could find a bed that looks that nice.

I was shocked when I saw it, it looked to have had a cover of some sort, gasket marks and very little use as a truck... I will fix that for sure...

I can help you with that. 8) just saying...... ;D

Got some good driving and trial and error fixin along the way. I had a miss under load, no wire arching so I figured a new set of plugs would take care of it. Made the problem 50% go away but judging from the plugs I took out it was more likely the plug wires. I had a new set from 20 years ago still sitting in the plastic box from a V-8 so I took the 6 shortest wires and used them. Ran better but still a slight mis under load. Took it for exhaust and had the transition pipes made so I could put on what I had. I parted out a 91 Suburban and it had a like new converter and muffler so I kept it squirreled away. Now that I have a cat on the truck I will take it in for a tail pipe next Saturday. Put a new Dist. cap and rotor, now it is running perfectly. I need to replace some dash lights and put a lighter in it for my GPS. I also need to get a glove box cause the plastic hinge is broke. I wish I hadn't gave my last one away. I've never needed one myself.

Very interesting find!
It's definitely not weighed down with a lot of options... Do you have any idea on how many miles are on it?

Based on the condition of the original seat, clutch/brake pedal rubber wear I bet it has 121K on it. Really considering restoring this one too but the others come first...
-
I'm guessing the original owner didn't get too carried away checking boxes on the options list.......
That would make a great start for a monster truck. Haha.
-
Probably a dealer ordered truck if I had to guess. Effortless to drive, just can't be in a hurry to get anywhere as it is a bit of a dog. I am also finding the 4.1L being the last year and not to common of engine parts are not stocked. 30 years old is probably more likely the reason...
-
Tail pipe done... Emission test done...passed.... dreaded trip to the BMV... done. The truck is officially mine and legal, PTL
-
I forgot to mention that my wife actually said "I like this truck, I don't smell gas like all your others" I will take what I can get...
-
Congratulations on the State approval and especially the wife approval!
-
Lol i dont smell gas thats too funny zieg

I probably could have worded that better... I hate her sensitive smell.

The 355in my truck definately smells of harmful emissions. My friend was driving behind me this summer. we stopped for a cold one,he told me that my trucks exaust smelled great. i was running turbo blue in it though!
-
I spent some quality time on it this afternoon. I changed the valve cover gasket and adjusted the rocker arms. All I can say is what a pain that was, so many vacuum lines and the emission control stuff made it very difficult to remove, then you had to hook it all back to get it running again without the cover on. Haven't done one like that in over 30 years, now I remember why I gave up turning wrenches as a profession. Found lots of blow by so I am expecting it to go through oil. The air cleaner had a few ounces I drained from it. Oh well, still runs good and it doesn't huff blue smoke.

I was a test away from AC and brakes certification. Glad I opted to keep it as a hobby, it is enjoyable for the most part. With the help of the internet I can fix most anything once someone walks me through.

I agree

Not going to turn this into a gas mileage thread but I filled it up for the second time to check gas mileage. Driving rural, really not taking it too easy. Lots of idling for warm ups. 250 miles, took 18.08 gallons at $259.9 for 13.83 miles/gallon. Speedometer/odometer is running 5% slow due to oversize tires so it is closer to 15.... I will take it...
This is not a daily driver for me as I have a company car with free gas so I mostly use that. I do like driving the truck more.

The take home company car is a great invention

My company car is a 400 HP Tundra crewmax....

We use to have a selection but since the early 2000's our company has been exclusively Ford. Prior to that I drove a Pontiac GP, Chevy Lumina and Olds Ciera's 90 and a 93

my boss got a tundra for the trailer towing capacity
Was rated much higher than any other 1/2 ton
Plus since its a take home vehicle. It doesn't look like a company truck since no one expects a tundra to be a work truck
I've been impressed. 19hwy/14 city is pretty impressive with 400 HP

Nice truck

I replaced a front brake hose yesterday in preparation for a minor road trip to Chicago to get some free stuff. It was a pleasant commute but did notice it had a little trouble keeping 70 mph going up a slight incline, really should have a lower gear than a 2.73 for that 6 popper. Shocks are next on the agenda.

Non-gauge package with new steering wheel
-
Wow! Scary! I'm glad to hear that both you and the truck are ok!
-
I just finally remembered to check the gas mileage and I was pleasantly surprised that I got 16.9 mpg loaded with a heavy fiberglass topper. I will take that any day...
-
heck i cant even beat that right now with the cummins.
-
That is pretty good!
-
Wanted to update the thread with new carpet pics. Floor ended up to be about perfect underneath the cracked original floor mat. Cleaned, vacuumed and a little blue rattle can to spruce it up before the carpet

Nice score on your new addition. Looks all original too. I had overheating problems with my '84 305 and after new intake manifold gaskets, thermostat, water pump rad cap, heater core/hoses, shaved heads and reseated valves/seals...it still overheated. I'd start with the radiator 1st. I took mine in but they said it was a plastic-ended type and looked like the ends were off before because of marks on the crimps, they didn't recommend messing with it. I did opt for the larger tranny cooling type for my 700R. Good luck with your truck and I'll follow your progress.

Sold Blue to a Square body guy who has a military K5 so I am pretty sure it is going to a good home.

Sure did.
With old blue sold, I can bring another one down here and get it going right. I am leaning toward getting my extended cab a road worthy cruiser
