Title: Crim's Intro
Post by: gwcrim on October 13, 2014, 07:31:21 pm
Thought I'd start out here with a brief intro.  This is my '80 C10.  My dad ordered it new my senior year in high school and I drove it home from the dealer when delivered.  It's sparsely optioned:

305 & auto trans
power steering
chrome bumpers

I installed an aftermarket radio and dad put wheels on it.

In the mid '90s, dad had it repainted/repaired.  In addition to the paint it got carpet, new seat cover, new dash and door panels that were painted to match.  He passed in 2005 and it's now mine.

Last summer I put on a set of old Blackjack Alumicotes that my neighbor had.  I also got a 4 bbl intake and carb but they're not on.  This summer I treated it to a 3.73 posi in hopes of improving acceleration.  The boat anchor of a 305 still won't push it along.

My neighbor has a 400 short block that I want but the poor guy has been in the hospital/rehab since June.  Hope he makes it home soon.  I needs me more POWER!  The plan is to put a 700R4 behind it.

Here's a couple more shots.  THey were taken in the spring of last year when I got it out of my mom's garage.  It's only got 64K on the clock too.  I just got a gauge cluster and 7000 tach since whatever engine winds up in it will certainly rev past 5 grand.

I just put a set of Blue Max wires on it.  It was about 20 years on the old set.  No more recent pics though.  It's almost time to put it away for the winter.  I'll be lurking around here for ideas and info.

I'm an old Mopar Man.  Had a '70 Challenger for 30 years.  Tweaked it to run 11's on pump gas and treaded dirt track tires.  Sold it in '08 because I lost interest.  Besides, you can't haul much in the trunk of one.

Welcome from Northern Illinois. I have a 1980 as well. Nice clean, straight truck you have. Hope you find a good engine for it.

Here are a few shots of the interior, as requested.  It kinda overwhelms me with red.  The door panels need replaced again as do all the window seals, etc.  I installed a Pioneer two channel amp @ 50 watts per and some Infinity speakers.  It plugs into my phone for music and rocks out quite well.  The radio is to be removed.

thats a pretty good idea with the amp and aux in for a phone. do you have a switch to turn the amp on?

The amp has a switch wire that is run to an accessory lead.  I'm planning on making a panel where the radio is that will have a 3.5mm input jack, a switch for the amp and a couple of USB ports for running the phone and my portable Sirius radio.

Right now I'm trying to diagnose a horrible intermittent miss.  Plugs and wires are new.  Replacing the distributor this weekend and hoping that cures the ills.  I'm afraid it's the carb though and I'm not going to bother with fixing a 305 2bbl.

The 2G carbs are very very simple to rebuild.  Prolly take 1.5 hours or so.  It'll get you by till you install the 400.

From orbit on my Android.

Got a great deal on an Accel distributor/coil combo on Ebay.  It cleared up a lot of the miss but it's not all gone.  Here's a shot of it warming up on a cold morning.

It probably needs rejetted too.  If I fix it, then I'll lose a source of motivation to get the 400 in it.

Tonight's project.  13.75" Grant Challenger wheel.  I like it a lot but it is pretty much right in front of the speedo and fuel gauge.  I also installed a new ignition key cylinder.  The old one didn't like to turn to start.

Here's a little peek at my latest additions.  Corbeau seats and a 2015 Tahoe jump seat.

The Corbeau seats were straight bolt ins.  They don't allow for a lot of reclining at all due to the truck being a standard cab.  Since I have short legs, I can lean them back enough that I'm very comfortable though.

The Tahoe console was pretty straight forward.  It required no welding but I did have to put 10x1.5 threads on a couple of locating pins to mount the rear bracket.  The original rear mounts needed trimmed as did the black skirt.  Otherwise, all I bought was a 3' section of 1-1/4" steel to make some pretty simple brackets.

On another note,   has had to send me three vinyl floors.  The first two had holes in them.  I've yet to look at the latest one.  Hope it's good.  Now that the seats are all done, the floor comes next.

That looks great. I want that same console and the bucket seats to go with it. I would prefer the brown leather seats from a High Country Silverado.
