Title: Fire Extinguisher
Post by: IdahoMan on October 20, 2014, 01:26:56 pm

What's your FE recommendations? (size/type) (effectiveness/cleanup)

Halon..
ABC..
CO2..
Etc..

From what I understand Halon works very well, and avoid ABC/dry-chem because it is corrosive. Don't know of the others.

In prison we have ABC used to have water but it dont work too well with electric. But ABC covers all A being basic trash
B being flammable liquids
C being electrical

Don't need type D that's for combustible metals.
All you need is a 2 pounder

ABC is the most common and very effective but a big mess to clean up.  CO2 I keep in the garage, no mess but not as effective as dry chemical.  You use to be able to get them rated BC only, more effective than the ABC on grease fires.  Purple K was another dry chemical and very effective.  I serviced and refilled fire extinguishers as my first job out of high school...

Since I'm following this thread, what would be the best FE for my new buggy?

I use ABC as they are easy to get disposable versions. They work well too.

I will carry a 5 lb ABC in the toolbox of the truck.  I have 10 lb ABC and 10 lb. CO2 for the garage
