Title: Zinc
Post by: Bitzer! on October 22, 2014, 04:14:33 am

Hi all,

A little quiet over this side of the pond, all work & no play.

A question for all you painters out there - If my chassis was blasted to bare metal and then zinc coated, what prep do I have to do to the coating before applying paint? Rub down, wipe, paint or can it just be wiped and painted?

Cheers in advance

Andy

There are several styles of zinc and all should call out clearly the next step.  Most of the ones I've sprayed use an epoxy intermediate coat but I am in the industrial side.

My '77 uses doors, fenders, and hood from a '91 Suburban. All are zinc galvanized. I sprayed DuPont Ful-Poxy primer on everything. Epoxy primers are compatible with zinc. There are a couple more but most automotive primers are not compatible with zinc.
