Well I sold the one in my avatar before I was able to get the Cummins installed, but I can't seem to stay away from these square bodies for very long. So after a short stint with a new 4th Gen Dodge. I am now back in the truck below. I bought it a couple of weeks ago in Flint MI. It already has a 12 valve in it. I have already swapped out the tires and wheels. I'm going to cut it down to a SWB, new interior and paint will take place over the winter.

Here she is with her new shoes. 13.50x35x20 Fuel Mudders on 20x14 wheels with -74 offset(4" back spacing for us old guys).
-
Very nice
-
Sweet! Congrats!
-
That's so sweeeet!
-
Nice rig we need more pictures!
-
Welcome back. I look forward to following the project.
-
That's funny I was looking at this truck craigslist as I was only like hour away.
-
448 miles for me, glad I found it. The pickin's were slim on crew cab, single rear, cummins Chevrolets.
-
Step 1 in making it a shortbed, is to remove the long one.........
-
No don't do it! In my opinion long beds look way better on crew cabs if they are a 3/4 or 1 tons. Only 1/2 tons look good with short beds.

The last crew cab short bed he built came out great.

i lucked out took me half a year of searching and paying too much for a rust bucket. we ended up having a auction at the state fair grounds its only a couple miles away. with in 4 minutes away. buddy told me it was a 90s 4x4, went and looked at it it was delivered to the airforce in 91. so it had the 4l80e/205 srw with 26k miles. knew it was going to go for 3k. i had 4 but when the bidding started let it drop to 1k then bid and only one other guy was bidding it ended up going for $1800. have a cummins now and stand alone computer for the trans. so now all i need is time. do want a short bed and cab and chassis rear for her also

Oh Fitz I have no dought it would be great, just saying personally I like 1/2 tons with a short bed and 3/4 and 1 tons with a long.

how can you tell by looking at them besides the lug nuts and axles?
-
Irish not sure what your asking here? How can I tell what ton they are by looking at axles and lug nuts? Usually lug nuts are the easiest giveaway, then the rear end and rear springs if you can get a quick peek at them, count the leafs. If it's a dually then it's obviously 1 ton or some kinda experiment lol.
-
lol i read you other comment and didnt understand what you were saying. but after reading your comment above that one i think i understand. you were saying crew cabs (being 3/4 or 1 ton) look better with long beds. while 1/2 tons (being regular cabs) look better with short beds

For me it's all about the fact that GM didn't build a SWB Crew Square Body. Makes the conversation a little more interesting when you tell someone that you just cut it in half and welded it back together. In a small way it makes the truck seem a little more modern also.
-
Bumper gone, Reese Hitch gone, exhaust gone, 4" of the rear frame about to be gone.
-
Loosing weight, removed 4" and some misc brackets, on a 1 ton the passenger side shock has to be relocated, and I gave the brake lines a shot of WD40 as they look like an abortion on this truck so they need to be addressed later also.
-
Here's a picture of the Blazer tank all tacked in, I will remove it, install the rubber under the straps, and weld everything up solid when I weld the frame back together. Pretty good showing for a Sunday morning after feeding some bottle calves.............I'll eat myself a Pop-Tart and go back out and remove the saddle tanks.
-
Looks good so far. Yea Irish that's what I meant. Unless someone wants to take a crew 3/4 ton, chop the frame, slap a short bed on and through 1/2 suspension and axle under it. Lol. It would be a crew cab 1/2 ton.
-
Here's a pic of the bed, fuel door relocated for the Blazer tank, body work all roughed in. Due to space limits in my shop I can only work on one side at a time.
-
That's some real amazing stuff, at home here on my Ipad the picture is upside down......when you click on it the picture shows larger and right side up.......at work this morning on my windows based laptop, it was upside down small and after you clicked on it.......obviously it's Bill Gates playing games from above.......
-
Picture is perfect on my iPhone
-
Upside down on my galaxy s5 using tapatalk app.
-
Shows a lot of skill on the relocation of the fuel door. Nice to see members with a lot of talent, keep up the good work !!
-

Hey that's better. Come do my body work please lol
-
Fairly productive Saturday morning, truck frame cut, squared up, tacked back in place. Waiting on buddy to bring my big welder back home so I can finish the welding.
-
Nice progress!
-
Looking good over here too! LOL
-
Awesome work man, keep up the good work
-
Alright......good progress this weekend, here she is running on the Blazer tank, and sporting her new bed.
-
Look good! How's that gas door look on the left rear corner?
-
It looks like factory, but also kinda weird knowing it shouldn't be there.
I get the driveshaft back tomorrow, I'll get a picture of the bed on that side.
-
Here's a picture of the drivers side showing the relocated fuel fill door.
-
Here's what I'm working towards......
Sanding.......Sanding........Sanding.......
-
Wow looks great at the back left. Nice drawing haha. I hope you can paint as good as you can weld and do body work, should look awesome.
