Title: Lifted Trucks and ABS
Post by: bladerunner on October 29, 2014, 10:07:52 am
I just bought a 1996 K1500 with a 6 inch lift.  The truck's ABS system goes off when coming to a complete stop. I could disconnect the system but I am wondering if there is something else I could do. Replace the wheel speed sensor or some kind of adjustment?  Brake kit upgrade?

The lift shouldn't affect the abs
But if it's like most lift kits and poorly installed
I'd check for stretched wires
Dirty sensors etc

And brake hoses    A 6" lift requires new longer hoses which most people don't install

Also check that the speedo sensor is corrected for the giant tires
It may be throwing the computer off
Or if one of the tires is worn or smaller or larger than the others

Speedometer is 5-6 MPH off

Guy I bought it from was a mechanic and said the ABS issue was due to a phenomenon called "lifted truck float" or something like that. Never heard of it. I did not pay much for the truck so I figured I would get to the bottom of it myself. I will do some more research.
