Title: 5-Speed Transmission ID
Post by: DustyRusty on October 29, 2014, 07:28:12 pm
Guys, a little help here.  What is the ID of the 5-speed in the ad that was supposedly in a '76 1and 1/4 Ton?  Also, don't recall ram's horn exhaust manifolds in '76.

The transmission looks like a New Process 540.

Thanks for the replies, guys.  I then did a Google search for "NP 540 transmission" and found some useful information.  Seems they were used by a numbr of truck mfgrs. and there were 2 versions:  overdrive and nonoverdrive.  Nonoverdrives were sometimes coupled w/ 2-speed axles.

Looks like an NP540.  http://www.chevyc60.com/transmission_assembly.htm (http://www.chevyc60.com/transmission_assembly.htm)  we had one in a 67 C60 grain truck with a 2 speed axle.
Clarke's top covers looked a little different.
Those exhaust manifolds look earlier than 1976 but maybe the heavy haulers still used them.
