This is about my 6th old Chevy Truck, had quite a few Chevy muscle cars too...I like the squares best. My last was an 80 Shortbed, found a bent frame and dumped it. This one will be my last...I'm keeping it.
My buddy's uncle lost his marbles one day and never found them unfortunately, so this truck got parked. He was the original owner, 72k miles, AZ truck. 350/350(started out as a 6).
Anyways, I traded my homie for a pistol. We pulled it out after airing up the tires. He lives a few houses away. We put it on his lift, changed the oil/gas/battery...and it fired right up. Drove it 30 miles home, buffed it and put some tires on it.
(I'm on the left)

It cleaned up OK. The front passenger fender is the only real body damage. Shaved off the rain guard etc...

Got a set of dual exhaust from Summit, just passed emissions today...so I can tear all the smog off as it's being registered in a no smog county.

I've never been fond of stepsides, but it's growing on me. I think I'll cap the bed rail end and box the rear even with the tailgate...and put tail lights in there. I'm good with a welder, and grew up around a body shop.

Next week I'm doing a 2.5/4.5 drop and putting on the exhaust.
Then I'll start on the body. Gonna take it to bare metal, black primer, wet sand it and let some metal show slightly on body lines then satin clear it...should come out the way I like it.

great start dude im gunna be fallowing this
-
Thanks, I work pretty quick...by New Years Eve this will be a different truck.
I sold off most of my toys from my other hobby...so it's funded nicely.
I'm just glad to have saved this. When you drive by one sitting in the hood and think "I'd like to snag that!"
(I did)

Got the drop kit today, and some 20x9 wheels with an acceptable offset.
Not real particular on the wheels, I know how to give them a brushed stainless look.
I'll put some taller/wider meat on them.

Killer step side, bummer about your buddies uncle though. I know how you feel about saving a truck from the hood that you always drive by. Thats like the 84 I got, I drove by it every day.

Aint that the truth. My 77 step side was the apple of my eye for a long time. She finally went up for sale and the rest is history. Previous owner was an unrelenting moron and treated this truck really bad. It would have been in the crusher at this point had I not did the 'intervention' and saved her. He literally offered to take it to the beach and ride the edge of the ocean to demonstrate the 4wd worked. I was like.. uhh no that will not be necessary. hahaha
-
That's a nice looking box you got there, I love to see them dropped with the big wheels,
I have a 79 k 10 custom deluxe step side my dad left to me when he passed, it originally came with a 400 small block but somewhere along the line my mom had a 350 dropped in it, with a 350 tranny that it had from the factory.
its got the aluminum wheels off of a 79 blazer, ill try to post some pics I'm kinda new to the forum myself. But nice looking truck, And sounds like a good deal. Keep on truckin' 8)

Well, I did 3/4 of the rear drop. Got tired.
Gotta drop the tank to do the last part, and grind a hair more off the bed rails. I took off as little as possible and need another 1/8"
Looks like it's gonna be sittin nice :)

Got the 4" drop done on the rear.
Now it's an 1.5" lower in rear than front.
Next weekend the 2.5" drop goes on the front so it'll be sittin right.

nice starting platform.

So, I took it Ray's to do the front end drop(2.5" spindle drop).
It's a Summit Racing 2.5/4 drop.
I got all new bushings/balls joints. After we got it together, we put(tried to) the rotors on...the inner bearings were too small(ID).
Found out the hard way that the drop spindles are made for the 3/4 Ton version of 73-87 Chevy Trucks(makes sense)
Had to but the bigger rotor, inner bearing, caliper and pads. It's all good :)
We put it up on the lift...

Now I gotta measure...so I can see what kinda meat I can get on it. I wanted 4 tires the same size...might have to do bigger rears.

So, I did some temp tail lights. The lights will end up in the bumper.
I got a good start on the bumper, never really found a decent one read made.
I made this one to match the bed rails, and look similar to an extended roll pan.
I'll end up capping the bumper to match the bed rails after I figure that out.
There will be some boxing and capping going on soon lol.

i like it. cant wait to see it finished
-
Thanks, it won't be long now. I'll start on the body soon
As far as the engine, I found out it's a 307 so I'm not gonna put a dime into it.
Around here I can get 454s all day long for $500, so I'm gonna buy a couple and throw one in and put a blue bottle on it and build the other right.
-
I love blue bottles!
-
Nice. I'd put some flat LED tail lights between the tailgate and bumper
