Title: Keep going through distributor gears.
Post by: 1979C20 on November 02, 2014, 04:36:48 am
79 c20 with a 350. 3970010 block, comp cams 262l 440d and a factory distributor. Im on my 3rd distributor gear in about 5k miles on the build. The engine keeps chewing the teeth off it. Its wearing right in the middle, but just tearing it up. I have no clue what the problem could be. Anybody heard of this?

I would think the cam is the issue

We need a sticky/or tech section thread on distributor gear compatibility.

Check the specific cam you used for manufacturer recommendations. Are you sure you are properly installing and securing the distributor?

Comp cams 12-206-2 hydraulic flat tappet cam. Factory hei distributor. Im installing the distributor correctly, it has up and down free play so its not bottomed out on the oil pump, hold down is tight with the gasket in place.
