Hey everyone, on some other forums I am a member of there are continuously updated threads of what you did with your "insert ride here" post up project progress or a picture of your truck in a cool place.
Whatever you want as long as it's related to your truck! Also pictures are definitely appreciated!
Let's get this going! It's always a fun thread to subscribe to if we can keep it going!

I drove my M1028 to work today.
-
I've never seen an m1028 in person! That's awesome! How is that painted? Sold to civilians?
-
Stared at it in frustration. Freezing rain.
-
My M1028 is painted olive drab.
I just picked up a M1009 Blazer parts truck painted camo.
These trucks are auctioned off to the public.
-
That is amazing! Your 1028 is super nice and very unique!
-
I just got home from dragging my buddies 02 crew cab 2500 out of the mud on a goat path he had no business being on with my 87 V 20.
I still have Yellow Snow, just needs a motor transplant. Been driving an 87 I picked up the end of last winter.
-
Must be a good feeling knowing the classic still works as good as or better than what's out now. I definitely enjoy cruising around in my 78 c15

Have you decided which motor you are going to use? Its almost time to put the plow on yellow snow.

im with fitz all my 91 v3500 crew did was drive me back and forth to work. today in the morning will be a tad different. im going to try making some speaker brackets for our trucks and maybe try to find a way to incorporate the 2001-2007? chevy tow mirrors into our trucks. some have made them into the vent window but im thinking something different maybe use the oem mounting
-
This would be interesting^^^
-
think i have it figured out but i went to the junk yard today and priced them. $100 used or $85 new. i can get a set off ebay for $100 so that will be my hold up
-
Very cool! Keep us posted on progress!
-
Drove my 78 c15 to dinner. Reminds me that I really need to replace the weatherstripping on the vent window.
-
Pulled out the 205 tcase and 465 trans from the 77 K-10
Installing a NV3500 from a '06 Silverrado with a 208 from a 85 K-30
-
As usual I beat old blue like a red-headed ford on the way home from duty today... But I'm not always mean I picked up some new vaccum lines, antifreeze, water pump ESC sensor and Lucas zinc additive for the old man as well. Told him to rest for the night because in the morning after we pick up a new toy( gsxr 750 engine) I'm gonna check on his ' toe' condition and fix those dry rotted vacuum lines. I hope he likes it.
-
I sprung a leak this morning on my way to work. So this evening I raced home before I ran out of coolant lol. Yanked the radiator out to send it out to be redone on Monday morning. Side tank was bleeding pretty good.
-
Bought some goodies for the truck to arrive for Xmas for my wife. The truck is technically hers but I enjoy the wrenching and some cruising. New center speaker to test if the original radio works along with a new rearview mirror and some gmc floor mats! More pics when they arrive and are installed!
-
Drove my 84 to Church. Been driving it a lot lately to test reliability... So far so good
-
turn it into my DD a while ago. I realized that I just love to drive this truck.
-
Great to hear it! I've still got a few little maintenance items before I can DD my truck, but soon! Otherwise it's great for cruisin around!
-
Drove it for the first time after the NV3500 swap
Woo hoo!
This trans is suuh-weet !
Took it for a drive before we re installed the dash and gauges ( gotta pull the gauge cluster to get to the clutch and brake pedal out)
And ran outta gas .....
-
Oh no! Haha
How was the nv3500 swap? Painless or nightmare?
-
Spent 20 mins freezing in the rain putting a new alternator in..the original one lasted until yesterday and would have been longer if I knew the. Voltage sensing wire needed a diode..yay!
-
Put the radiator back in and she's all good to go. Drove her this afternoon. A week in my mom's tahoe and I remember how much I love my truck better lol. After all my truck is my DD, it's the only 1 out of our 4 vehicles total I wanna drive.
-
Using the 350. Haven't done it yet, been busy as a one armed paper hanger moving, & setting up my shop. Only 200' across the yard, but still a lot of work. Completely cleaned, & painted the inside of the new shop. Then moved all the tools, equipment, & crap. Then cleaned & painted the inside of the old shop. Spent the last almost 2 weeks setting up / wiring the compressor, & waste oil furnace.
Also put new rear springs, new front shackles, & bushings, plus new shocks, coil overs in the rear on my 87. Using it for plowing for now.
-
The speaker, rearview mirror and floor mats I ordered showed up yesterday! Time to put a bow on the box and prep it for Xmas then install at that point!
-
Oil / filter change, feul & air filter. Checked power steering fluid level as well as coolant level. Lubed chassis.
-
Aw ya! You reminded me haha I changed the oil/filter yesterday and bought a new distributor cap and rotor as the one on there.... Looks ancient. Gonna slap that on here next weekend
-
Finally got around to mounting the radiator and fans properly. Been 3 years and I'm surprised I Hagen ruined my radiator due to vibration. Plan on finnishing it tomorrow.

I believe they are from Finnland and they specialize in winter tires. Supposed to be the best non-studded winter tire available.

I got my wire harness ready to go through the firewall this morning, but I think I might have the stomach flue

The wiring on my TPI set up gives me that quesy feeling too. Hang in there, you have made great progress so far.
I'm looking forward reading about your truck as the project continues.
-
Finally got the radiator fans and shroud one plus a new water pump. the old one was squeeeelin.. we all know that is one of the first signs of bad bearings. it ook it out and the old pump had no drag at all. Ran the old man through a few heat cycles and so far no leaks first try...well not the first time so I guess that counts for something. Brock.. gonna check out your progress on that TPI.

That is correct! At least according to the tire shop.

Dropped the gas tank to install a new one
Old one is leaking and has some problem where if you run it of of gas you have to put over 10 gallons in to get it to draw gas again
Also installed new stock grill to replace tube grill
Got the body bushings and 4 brand new door hinges and a new speedo cable in the mail too
Only took 3 trips to the hardware store to get the grill installed
And had to run a thread cutting die down on the tank strap bolts to get the threads clean enough to remove the bolt
Glad I just dropped the hanger and all out to begin with
Discovered that the o ring around the sender was leaking
And the filler tube is a poorly fitting radiatior hose

took my 91 v3500 crew cab on a 200 mile trip one way with a 4 wheeler in the back to my uncles house. i delivered the 4 wheeler to mineral va (where we had the earthquake at a couple years ago). last year i had a run in with a local not real bad but they aint to fond on Yankees. but this time showing up in the crew cab and 4 wheeler in the back with my family and luggage in the front wearing camo. i pulled up to a stop light next to a guy in a light dump truck, i opened my door and dumped my spit cup and just happened to look up at the guy right about the same time my wife was looking at what i saw. the guy was watching me then he gives me a nod of approval and spits into his cup. me and the wife lost it and i told her i think they have accepted me as one of their own and i blend in real good

Irish..the hills really do have eyes! You just met them. But sounds like HOME to me! ;D
Today I drove all over east Va looking for tie down anchors to load one of my bikes (650lbs). Found some track style ones with a 2200lb break weight and 1200lb working weight. The are in with some nutserts so I can re!move them whenever even though they are low profile and I doubt I will ever need to take them out!
-
Checked the oil in my 84... crap, it went through a quart in 400 miles, dipstick is milky white and the radiator is down. Guess I need to step up the search for a replacement power plant.
-
On sunday...Tore apart dash to replace burnt out bulbs, replace two gauges, speakers, cleaned all connection points. Almost halfway done! Darned work is in the way the next few days!!
-
I don't mind the what did you get done thing but it has been going for a while and there should be a thread dedicated to resolving the issue. If you want to make it daily that is fine but we should use the appropriate sections for that. I am going to split the troubleshooting issue later.

Re-installed ignition module with silicone heat sink underneath. This was after doing the ESC bypass.
Removed thermal vacuum switches from intake. Will replace with temp sender for water temp gauge and use a plug in the other one. Anyone know off hand what size those openings are? 6 cylinder and 8 cylinder intakes should be the same.

Determined top dead center position on harmonic balancer. The outer ring HAS NOT slipped.
If i could, here's a little tip if using a piston stop device; Try to take out ALL the spark plugs or as many as possible. This will make it easy to turn the engine by hand. And try to only turn it by hand---i actually bent my piston stop device because i thought i was against compression, but it was actually the piston against the screw of the device. Fortunately, it wasn't bent too bad and i was able to unscrew it from the hole.
If you're doing it in car, then you'll probably have to use the crank pulley bolt. In this case, you want to be SLOW and GENTLE. i think if you line the factory mark up to just before the pointer tab and THEN put the device in, you'll know you're close and can anticipate better when the piston will touch the stop device.
i learned a lot from watching this video:

I got a chance to drive my 78 heavy half around town for some errands. Now I'm trying to track an annoying squeak down.
Every time I fire the thing up I am reminded that I need to pull the carb off and fix the well plugs. Such a struggle to get the old guy started.
-
Ben it maybe more heat soak than well plugs. Toss a spacer onto that carb and see if that helps first.

I'm definitely open to options. What is a spacer typically used for?
I have lots of trouble with cold starts. Especially freezing or below.
-
Installed temp sender in intake. Left thermal vac switch in other port----will use a pipe plug later.
cleaned and chased out left side exhaust manifold bolt holes. Will install manifold tomorrow as i don't have gaskets.
-
Finished putting dash back together. Wow what a diff!! It is nice and bright w/all new bulbs & speakers & clean too!! Unfortunately the temp & volt gauge stiil do not work!!
Any suggestions??? Temp all the way to the right, volt all the way to the left! Have replaced temp sensor on top of manifold. Replaced Battery cables & checked/cleaned all grounds.

Please start a new topic for the week. This is becoming a status on builds thread that is going to get lost..
