Title: 4.3 v-6 request:
Post by: Stewart G Griffin on December 07, 2014, 11:27:41 am
If anyone has the 4.3 v-6 in their truck, could you please take a picture from the side (either side, but both sides would be nice) and post?

If you need the V-6 engine/frame mounts I have them out of my 86

Yes, thank you.  Although i was trying to get more of a side view.  Not that big a deal though---i'll get it in there eventually.

Oh, there you go.  That's a nice one.  i won't be using the shroud though.  i forgot to take it from the guy i bought the engine from.  And when i realized it, he said he threw it out.   Plus, i was wanting to go with an electric fan anyways.

What are you going to run for an electric fan?
If you want I can get you pictures of my set up.
My electric fan was mounted under the stock fan shroud.
1/2" wide steel stock was bolted to the top & bottom of the radiator, this serves as a mounting bracket for the fan.
This set up eliminates the cheezy zip ties that some  people use. The zip ties can vibrate over time causing radiator leaks.
Let me know if you want pics.

i'm planning on using, for now, a fan off of a 2004 cavalier.  i'm thinking that will be enough cfm's considering that i rarely haul or tow heavy.  And yes, i plan on mounting it right and not using zip ties.   Also, i think Spal and Jeg's have wiring kits which i'm thinking of using so i can wire it right using relays etc.

The radiator appears smaller than a v-8 version?   Is this true?

Much smaller radiator, I can measure it if you need me to.  The radiator is held by the plastic shroud as seen.  I suppose you can get a shroud and trim it to use just the hold down...

Well it would be interesting to know it's dimensions, but i'm just going to use my existing 8 cly one.

Uh oh...... i may have to take you up on the offer concerning the mounts:

It appears that the "stands"/"towers" (don't know what to call them) are different:

Here is the setup from the v-6 driver's side:

Here is the v-8 driver's side:

i then took this "tower" off to see if i had the same holes drilled in the crossmember and i'm not sure at this point:

i did not take the v-6 mounts when i bought the 4.3 because he said the mounts are the same and you just slide them back.  i thought this made sense.  i don't think either one of us really knew and still don't.   It's clear that the v-8 mounts cannot simply be "slid back" 4.5" because the 2 lower holes on the crossmember don't line up.   Another thing is i don't have that third hole drilled in the top of my frame.   If everything else works, then drilling 1 hole is not that big a deal.   i'm concerned if the crossmember might also have to be drilled for another hole?

So, it's either that, do some custom mounts if i'm able to, or go with a crate 350 because i don't have a whole lot of time right now.

i'm PM you A.S.A.P.

Are you still needing the mounts?  I just took the V6 out of my 86 and need to replace them with V8 mounts for an LS swap.
