Hey fellers, been a while since i've been on here. Surprised I remembered my password. Though I used to be Sgt.Del on here, then Lt. Del, since then I became a captain, and now I am a Major at the Sheriff's Office. Been busy. But, I had to log on here to do my yearly tradition. I post this story I wrote for this site back in '07 or so. So here goes...
‘Twas the night before Christmas
and just outside the house
A Ford was broken
And quiet as a mouse
The engine was seized all froze, would not fire
With hopes it would get going again, if just for a while
The children were wishing, to go out and Christmas shop
They could go no where, for their transport was dead as a rock
And Mamma in her ‘kerchief, yelling at Dad
“Get a Chevy next time so I won’t be so mad!”
So Dad snapped back, “you think you’re some model?”
He went to the garage to drown himself in the bottle.
When out on the road, he heard such a roar
He ran to the door but fell flat on the floor
Tilting his head up, he could barely see
But he was certain, flying by was a GMC
He gathered up the family and called a cab
Things were looking up, Mom wouldn’t be so mad
While waiting for the ride, he had a notion
He waited til upon the roof there was a commotion
Screw the cab, he grabbed the ladder
Mom said, “what the heck is the matter?”
Dad said, “We have our ride, get on the sleigh!”
“Move that fat man in the red suit out of the way”
So up they went into the sky
Dad still drunk flying high
Now Dasher, now Dancer, Now Prancer and Vixen
Mom stayed behind, not knowing what she’s missin’
So up to the house tops their coursers they flew
Stepping on the roof, Dad slipped on the dew
Down he fell, without a hope and a prayer
Clothes snagged on the gutters, his pants had a tear
Dangling in the air, finally he fell
Landing on the ground, nearly breaking his tail
Back in the sleigh, dropping his kids off at Walmart
To the Ford dealership, no, he has a change of heart
A Ford no more, A Chevy it will be
It’ll be very dependable, the family will see
He is sobering up, it is apparent
Now he is becoming a responsible parent
Ditching the sleigh, back to Walmart he did drive
In his new Chevy truck, he suddenly felt alive.
The kids came out running, shocked at what they saw
Dad actually does have some brains, a truck without a flaw
Back on the road, they were now heading home
Only to discover, Mom had left, now they’d be alone
Dad had finally gotten wise, but it was too late
The damage was done, now he had to find a new mate
But that is all right, he thought, with a smirky smile
With that awesome truck, he knew it would only take a little while.
The moral of the story is don’t wait until it is too late
Drive a Chevy, so your wife will not show so much hate
However, as for vintage vehicles, there are some things
That Ford did great, like the older Mustangs
Adding this the writer had to do

Thanks Chris. I promise to check in more often. Just been busy with the job and we moved back in January to a new place with lots of land and a lake and ATV trails, shooting range, and, most importantly, a large garage that I just finished installing a woodstove in---so a lot to take up my time.

Welcome back. Wish my time in the department would transfer down there and congratulations major sir ;). Just got back from my uncles last week took him a ATV so we all could ride in his hills

next time i go to my uncles in mineral, ill have to let you know its only a ˝ hr trip from their place. we all piled up in the 91 crew cab with a 4 wheeler and took a little trip down there, the trip didnt even cost a tank of gas one way. should have the cummins in her soon so it will cost even less hopefully.

Mineral, in Louisa County, is only a few minutes away from me in Beaverdam in Hanover County--maybe 12 miles away. I am real close to Lake Anna, where the North Anna Nuclear Powerplant is.....lots of boating, fishing, swimming there in that giant lake.
My 9 acre pond has plenty fish in it too, if ever you wanna come down to do some fishin'. I have a jon boat and a canoe in my front yard.

cant really do any fishing in your front yard ;). i always have a couple poles behind my seat now, we went fishing a couple years ago down there at a fee fishing place wasnt really any fun it was like shooting fish in a barrel. granted we caught plenty of fish but there wasnt and fun when you knew you will catch something

thanks. Having two trucks insured and registered is fine when I lived in town. Now, living 25 miles out of town in the sticks where it is peace and quiet, I had to downsize my trucks to just my '91 suburban, aka: the Blu Burb. With my 16' trailer, that combo does everything I need. I drive my economical 30 mpg Ford Taurus all around for economy. Though it hurt me big time, I sold my '79 green Chevy Big 10 with that awesome 383 stroker in it. My new neighbor behind me owns it now. I miss driving that thing so much, but, I couldn't keep all my toys--just wasn't practical.

I was thinkin about you just the other day. Glad to see you back. Sorry you had to sell the 79. Every now and then I look around and start to feel owned by my possessions and I realize it's time to decluge - lol. Congrats on the promotions!

Thanks Rich. Yeah, you don't realize all the possessions you have until you move. I lived at my old house for 23 years. Lots of stuff accumulated. Still haven't taken everything out of the basement from there yet. One day I'll have it ready to rent out, maybe in 5 yrs at my rate of moving. Thank goodness my new place has two large garages to help store my ATV's, lawnmowers, '65 GT convertible stang, and all the other 'garage' stuff.

i felt the insurance company looking into my wallet every month so i had to take a few trucks off, but didnt sell them. took the 79 k20 off and the 84 k30 cummins. been thinking about pulling the motor and trans out of the 79 350 carb sm465/205 and putting it in the k30, this way ill have a back up truck for when i take the cummins and put it in the crew cab.

i simply had too many vehicles insured and on the road too. I had to draw the line. I had way too many projects, so I cut back on those. I spent the summer cutting ATV trails in the lower part of my property and cleared a large area in my woods for a camping/fire pit area that is accessible only by foot or ATV. It overlooks a large creek and I love sitting back there cooking over the fire with my cast iron dutch ovens and listening to some cool tunes. Country living at its best. Trying to simplify my life and relax some now.
Irish, next time you come to ride ATVs let me know. How much land does your uncle have in Mineral for ATVing?

most times we go to the back creak which is the back property line and just chill and drink a little.
i think the property is about 2,500' deep and 300' wide so something like 18+/- acres and as you can see pretty much all woods. but theres only a couple trails 1 main one and some others that branch off
do you have hills on yours? i been wanting to get my 3 wheeler back working but i aint taking it on the hills at my uncles place. that thing is perfect for delaware cause its mostly flat lol

my lower 8 acres were all woods, below the dam of my lake, so, I got my chainsaw out this summer and cut about 4 trails through to my lower , southern boundary line which is a creek. I have a hill that I cleared as well that overlooks the creek and i love sitting up there on my cleared off area and watching the wildlife and creek and cooking with cast iron in my fire pit there. I have several metal chairs there and a couple of tables set up. I have a place for several tents that we use to camp out in too. it is half mile from any house and the only way there is by foot or atv via my new trails. I made two bridges that cross another of my creeks for my atv trails too. i love this place. My driveway is one mile long, so, if i want to go fast, i open it up on my driveway. no hills on my trails, there is one trail that has a lot of mud when it rains if i feel like get muddy, then i jump in the lake afterwards.
